Scan disk wont run

Hey,

Anytime I try to run scandisk it stops once it hits phase 2. I clicked the 2 box's that check for bad sectors and whatever else so have to wait until it restarts etc.

Anyways... when the computer is booting up and the scandisk screen comes up it says that the drive is inaccessable.

Anyone got any idea ? Its only the 1 drive I have. Windows can read it so it cant be that inaccessable.

I'm on Win2k service pack 5.

Try a 3rd party chkdsk program like diskeeper.

Also could be a virus is your pc clean?

Pretty sure I've no viruses. Had up to date virus software*. Checked ad-ware.



*I just uninstalled AVG incase that was causing the errors.

Can you boot with a floppy and run chkdsk fro pure dos?

Me either i use a bootbale cd made with nero 6.

has to be Nero 6 tho other versions dont do it right.

get nero 6 only need 1st package from www.ahead.de

Run it create Bootable Data Disc (if you have XP copy it into a folder and add in G card drivers and other things you may need it system goes tits up)

Then burn the CD 9the Xp part is optional i just hate wasting disc space).

Stick the CD into your drive in Bios boot from CD then you get a to pure dos chk dxk will run from there.

Actually you have W2k you shold be able to restart in DOS mode. then just type chkdsk at the command prompt.

You must use chkdsk /f to make it fix stuff.

Otherwise it just scans in read-only mode.

Additionally, if your system drive is C: it can't scan while the system is up, so it'll schedule it for the next reboot.

u cud just try running scandisk in safe mode, works for me.
