Is it ok to put an open tin of say, beans in the fridge or is it better to pour the remains into a plastic bowl? Scientifically speaking.

there's something in the back of my head about never putting open tins into fridges. You're much better off tipping the contents into a bowl and placing that in the fridge

That's true.. It's related to the oxidisation of the metal used to make the cans, and can increase lead levels.. Or so I've been lead (pardon the pun) to beleive..

looks like mumsy's right, is that fact now?

Well, you should always listen to Mumsy!
You wouldn't be here right now without her!

Another point: When you put things in your fridge, they last longer when you put them in an airtight container.. Open cans aren't airtight.. Therefore, more rapid spoilage..

How many reasons do you need?!

another reason is its very easy to put a half full can on a shelf in the door of your fridge for eternity, best to tip it out into a clear tupperware sealable thingy

Bowl is better. Or as Krusty said, sealable container is best. You never know when that half-tin of beans you opened yesterday doesn't get eaten till tomorrow.
