Todays poll is disasterous for Fianna Fail. They are going to loose local and European seats.Never has there been greater scope for ending Fianna Fail dominance. The opportunity is there for Fine Gael and Labour to form the next Government and dominate politics for the next ten years. We need a Government that will protect us from crime, the IRA and RIRA.I hope Fine Gael and Labour continue the work of unseatin FF and win many local seats between them

Hmm I'll pass on the protecting us part....the polls are looking good for SF locally. FG should win 4 maybe 5 that would be a success but hey, who takes the election of MEPs seriously?

I supect this is the usual mid-term slap on the wrist. Until FG/Labour start to take each other seriously and start planning a joint election stategy now the FF/PDs are in for while yet.

Yes indeed it will be great when Fianna Fail are gone. They will end the harassment of the lowest income tax in Irish history, the horror of paying directly for services without it disappearing into a socialist-high-tax system.

We can look forward to high taxes, high service charges, and best of all high unemployment; we will help those thousands of people who harm themselves by spending their excessive earnings in bars in the city. The same with the poor souls who have to drive the 04 and 03 cars that we see on the roads.

And I for one am sick of the class-crossing socialised housing scheme to help the less fortunate. How dare they institute such a depraved system. In fact, end that Section relief and let us go back to not being able to afford any housing at all!

Let us all give thanks that Luas can be successfully torn up and our streets can go back to mismanaged public transport rather than light rail, bus lanes and cheap air travel. I would rather we all cannot afford cars.

In fact, let's vote FF out just so we can be poor bastards all over again. THat was much more fun. And then, when we grow up and enter the real world in a decade or so, we'll feel so much better for voting a bunch of idiots like SF/Greens/Labour, because no socialist party like those has ever ****ed up a country. No siree. Not even in the UK.

Absolutely, and they need to do it now because SF are going to start picking up grassroots support at local level and they're going to need to counteract that. Be nice if FG got rid of Kenny too. He's not up to the job. Not sure anyone is at this stage.

While many think Gay Mitchell is a lightweight he sure knows how to canvass votes in Dublin which is where FG is weakest.

I expect Sinn Fein to take most of the seats that fianna fail loose, particularily in dublin. SDCC and Dublin corporation could have at least a 40% Sinn Fein representation.I dont expect the PDs to change too much but i can see them loosing seats before they gain any.Green Party should do well Labour also will do considerabley well and Fine gael will gain a minute amount of seats. In europe Fianna Fail will probably end up with one MEP.Labour and Fine Gael Ditto.

By the way under Labour and Fine Gael the people in the P.A.Y.E sector had a greater share of the wealth as a percentage of GDP than they have today. There were none of these stealth taxes which in effect have the upper class paying only 0.2% of their income and the working class paying 2% of their disposable income.People on Modest income could afford a house back in the mid 90s unlike today where a couple need a combined income of €90,000 to afford a shack.

Life has never been better for the rich over the past 7 years Charlie Is great at given out massive tax concessions to racecourse owners whilst at the same time the transport and health services are below european standards.Sure the racecourse owners need the money more than the people waiting on hospital trolleys dont they?.McCreevy should join his beloved progressive democrats seeing that he is so good at implementing their economic policies.Contrary to many claims that bertie pulled the celtic tiger out of his rear end, it was the FG/Lab government who negotiated the 12.5% corporation tax rate which attracted foreign investors thus bringing about substantial economic growth.

    For better governing vote labour.

Correct me if I'm wrong but FF have been in power for at least 17 of the last 20 years. They've also been in power for significantly more time than any other party in the state since its foundation.

If any party is to be held accountable for making us 'poor bastards' and ****ing up the country then surely FF must take their fair share of the blame.

You must be joking  , not more than 20% would be the most optimistic description of their chances by any serious pundit .

    /me says 14-16% but /me is not a serious pundit :D

I think the poll is great news. It will get FF off their holes and also spur on the opposition to try harder. FF have really taken the piss since the last election with all the cutbacks they've introduced and promises they didn't keep, and its high time they got a slap for it. A good result for FF would be like a thumbs up from the public for them to continue as they please, while a bad showing might get them working a bit harder for our votes.

Kenny is a good leader,at least you can trust him and at least he is trying to put forward an alternative.

How is Enda Kenny alternative to anything either from previous FG leaders or current FF leadership?Apart from having a leader religios fundamentalist and former leader (Bruton) in their rank.

But they aren't running enough candidates to do that. Phoenix is suggesting 10-14 seats on the city council (out of 52).
