What a shame. Royston probably let the radio stations know all about his own policies yesterday and we didn't get to hear about them.

Just as well nothing got bombed yesterday. Bertie wouldn't have been able to make a speech deploring it for fear he'd look presidential. Labour candidate stabbed? Better not report it as there might be a sympathy vote. Oil spill in Alaska? Can't call the local Green candidate who probably had a handy few words about it. Corruption in local council? Call us Saturday. Sunny day? Careful who you talk to now, they might have a party badge or look like particular party material. Better watch Bryan Dobson's tie colour as well.

No radio station's had the balls to play "Rise Up and Follow Charlie" then? Wimps.

Well - It was FF who introduced commercial TV and radio in to this country.

Before this we had 2 state radio stations & TV stations.

    What are you talking about?
Are you trying to say that's a good enough reason for them to dictate what we can or cannot see or read about on the news?
Is there a particular way we should be saluting Bertie? I'm not too well up on this fascist stuff.

Commercial radio existed in this country since the 1970s as "pirate" radio (it's difficult to pirate something nobody owns nor uses). Ray "Every tree in north Dublin" Burke abolished them. Ray Burke then took money (personally) from the new licenced operators and in the same act imposed censorship.

It was FF who introduced commercial TV and radio into this country. Before this , we had to rely on State TV and radio.

    Pirate Radio was always crackly.

There should be a Code Of Practice with regards to reporting news on the lead up to elections.

Would it be ok if, TD YY launched a character assisination on TDXX on the eve of an election? TDXX may not have the opportunity even to respond.

No, pirate radio was commercial (although I suspect some was amateur / community), what changed was it went from a deregulated to a regulated market of local monopolies (except in perhaps Dublin).

That's true, but it should not be up to the government to enforce it upon the media.

I 100% agree. It is high time that we had a press council in this country.

But the way it's been going for the last few months, FF would see themselves as the people to do this.
It should be an independent 3rd party IMO, what do you think?
