Yeah but what if your in your mid 30's and you decide to get it out and your left with a big hole in your mouth?

id say have a long think about it and don’t get because the ladies love it they should be interested in you and not your jewellery

Don't make comments like this unless you know what you're talking about! The tissues in the mouth are among the fastest healing in the human body. If you take a tongue piercing out it will start to heal IMMEDIATELY. You won't be left with a "big hole in your mouth".

I got mine done in Febuary and only a few of the "mad lads" at school gave me a bit of stick. Go for it.

I think you should go for it...I got mine done in January and it healed pretty quickly and it looks cool I think.

Who cares what others think, if you want it, go for it!

whats the pain like? ive heard that its awful for a day but then ok, and how long does it take to fully heal? just asking cos i have a scaffold done and recently accepted that after 10 months cleaning it is never ever ever going to heal!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,045 ✭✭✭✭tk123

Mine was painless - you feel the needle going thru but it doesn't hurt. After that it swells a bit. You'll get used to having the bar there in no time so it's nothing to worry about!! And don't worry about what people say!! I get people saying i'm gay cos i'm a girl and I have short hair and some piercings - at the end of the day I'd rather be me than a somebody who is afraid to express themself because of what other people might think!! ;)

thanks for all the replys guys. Im going to get it done on sat, have my appointment and alll. ill update when i get it done and post a pic too. :)

the pain ain't too bad - i've had mine for 8 years and never regretted it once - in fact i dislike taking it out at all.

The best place to get it done in Snakebite of abbey st.
It's great having it it swells a bit for about 3-4 day's but it depends from person to person you'll get a leaflet about how to look after it and stuff. It feels really fantastic for the 1st 3 months or so but it does lose sensitivity, it's still pertty funky tho! I've had mine now for about 6yrs. You will not be left with a big hole it'll heal up within a day or so if you wanta take it out. I think everyone should try everything they want and screw those who try to tell ya different!!!

    go for it man!

    (i love mine)

Ro, i havent a clue but it sounds like it could be infected...

    (i hope it isnt painful)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭Ro_79

yeah its a bit sore anyway....

I am going to wash it with salt and water and see if it improves...

got my tongue pierced 4 years ago, got infected after a year or so and took it out cause it was so painful. missed it so much that i had it done again bout 6 months later.
only thing was that the hole in my tongue was still visible before i got it pierced for the second time, and because the first piercing was slightly off centre on the top, the second guy centred it and now have a second hole on the top of the tongue. not really noticable but annoying anyway.

lesson: make sure you go to someone who knows what theyre doing (the 1st time)

ps: Ro, salt & water is good but you may want to invest in some TCP

can i play football with it in?

or do i have to keep taking it out?

i really want it, but i'm scared of the pain.
i mean, not scared, eh... worried.

TCP is meant to actually delay the healing time (despite keeping it clean), if I am thinking correctly. Salt water is definately the cheapest solution, and its damn effective too. ;)

And kirn, sports should be no problem at all! Unless you run about with it gripped between your teeth! :)

WHOAH. TCP is only used if you have a throat infection - there's no need to use it when you get a new tongue piercing, it's much too harsh! Salt water is all you need, or an alcohol-free mouthwash.

Of course ya can, you don't ned to take the bar out at all
When you get it done the balls can't really move at all
Just check and see if they're lose before starting a game
You can do almost anything with it in!
