Just one option - VPN. Your mate's 3Com box supports VPN pass-through, which means that it will be possible to connect to a VPN server somewhere on their network. However, there's no mention of VPN for your D-Link box, so you may have to get some new gear. You're also going to need fixed IP addresses for both locations.

My recommendation would be for each of you to get hold of an old PC and put Smoothwall on them. Plug your BB modems into your Smoothies, and you'll not only get a state-of-the-art VPN setup, you'll also get the absolute best firewall protection around.

Hmmm sounds like a good one..

Both LANs have a static IP so that good...

So setting up VPN clients etc on both ends will essentially allow the two networks to perform as the one LAN?

I assume the servers would need two NICs?
