Fine Gael 5 seat success....?

    It looks like FG are about to suprise themselves and everybody else by securing 5 seats including 2 in East.

    Meanwhile FF must be in shock, FG have caught them in the local elections as well with about 300 seats a piece.

    If you add FG and Labour % together and transpose to Dail elections thats a working majority I think.

    Fine Gael are the winners in this election.If Fine Gael win the 5th euro seat it will be the first time since Cosgrave lost the 1932 Election that Fine gael were ahead of Fianna Fail in an Election

    Hmmmm. No.

    FG is currenly on 29.1%. Admittedly there best result for a couple of elections.

    Labour are on 10.8%, not the 15% that had previously been speculated on earlier in the count.

    Green at around 4%.

    So it isn't certain they would get an overall Dail majority. There were have to be a very strong transfer pattern between them, or else they will be left dependent on Independents. The problem is that many Independent TD's in this country are historically former members of FF, so there is even a small chance of the current Government getting back in with their support.
