Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Autoplay not working?

    For the last few weeks, windows XP (pro sp1) autoplay has not been working, on both my DVD-RW and CD-RW drives. I've tried editing the registry, using TweakUI and microsoft's AutoFix tool to re-enable it, but even though they all (except auto fix, more on that in a minute) say it is enabled it doesn't bloody work.

    The log from autofix is as follows:

    AutoFix [V5.2.3790.67]
    Time [2004-06-20 12:22:15]
    Microsoft Windows Version [5.1 (Service Pack 1) <2600>]

    Test [The Shell Hardware Detection service is running.] - Instance [N/A]:
    Result [AutoStart Setting]: OK
    Result [The Shell Hardware Detection service is running.]: OK

    Test [Policies] - Instance [F:\, Drive Type: 5]:
    Result [HKCU\...\Policies!NoDrives]: OK {Absent}
    Result [HKCU\...\Policies!NoDriveAutorun]: OK {Present}
    Result [HKCU\...\Policies!NoDriveTypeAutorun]: OK {Present}
    Result [HKLM\...\Policies!NoDrives]: OK {Absent}
    Result [HKLM\...\Policies!NoDriveAutorun]: OK {Absent}
    Result [HKLM\...\Policies!NoDriveTypeAutorun]: OK {Absent}
    Result [Driver level policies]: OK {
    HKLM\...\Services\cdrom!Autorun (Present) <Allows>
    HKLM\...\Services\cdrom\Parameters!Autorun (Absent) <Allows>
    HKLM\System\CCS\Enum\...!AlwaysEnable (Absent) <Not set>
    HKLM\System\CCS\Enum\...!AlwaysDisable (Absent) <Not set> }

    Test [Drive Notification] - Instance [F:\, Drive Type: 5]:
    Result [Legacy Notification]: OK
    Result [AutoPlay V2 Notification]: Problems {
    Service (Silent)
    Shell (Deaf) }
    >> Repair << [Autoplay V2 Event]
    Step: No steps to take.
    Result: This AutoPlay setting cannot be fixed. Either the device is malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem.

    >> Required action: The wizard found problems but cannot fix them -> None

    I can still browse files on CD's/DVD's without any problem, just nothing will autoplay. I also get the little CD icon on my mouse pointer when I insert a disc and it first spins up.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Try here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312475 .It says the info is for Windows 98 and ME but I used it myself and I'm using XP and my auto-run worked again

    Make sure "Shell Hardware Detect" is enabled and set to Automatic in Services.

    Yeah it is (I think it mentions it in that AutoFix log)

    Remove the drives from device manager and see if windows creates new settings for them on reboot.

    I'm having the same problem as above on a friends pc.
    its doing my head in at this stage, spent a few hours trying tog et it done
    tried tweak UI, autofix, manually doing the reg myself
    everytime i use autofix it says there is local registry problems, and fixes it, log off/on and its still not fixed
    the main problem that doesn't seem to be running is the autorun.inf
    and when i click the proerties of the drive I don't see in the list of options of how I can get it to select autorun
    thinking of just upgrading to vista..
    here is the log of the autofix

    It is really simple to fix the error that you describe. Just go to the following link http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?FamilyID=c680a7b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&displaylang=en and download direct from microsoft, (dont worry about the size of the file it is very small) Install file then run the program select whichever drive letter is giving you the problem (ie if you dvd drive is drive "d" and it is that drive that is playing up then select drive "d"). It will fix it in seconds. I had the same problem I did the above and it fixed fixed one part in about 2 seconds and told me to log of and back on again then I had to run it again to fix one more section again this only took about 2 seconds. Now log off and back on again. Now you will find it works OK. I hope this has helped somone. :)
