Removing Hedging

I need to remove the hedging from the sides of my new garden - its a mixture of beech, privet & brambles, all mixed in. It was set down about 15 years ago, so I'm guessing the roots are fairly deep.

I haven't got access for a mini digger - is there any way I can cut it at the base (chainsaw) and then kill the roots ??

Cut it 1-2 feet above the ground and then work the ground with a fork. Use the stumps to then pull out the root system. If you really want to get one of those short-life broadleaf weedkillers.

    Actually are hedges broadleafed?

I've tried forking, but the roots are a nightmare, so I figure I'm going to need a weedkiller of some sorts - also not sure about 'broadleaf', but I was thinking of trying root-out or similar

you can't/shouldn't attempt this during nesting season, it's illegal for a start
I'm not sure if the dates

I'm sure there may be laws against mass de-forestation or large scale hedge removal, but I should be safe with a garden hedge ! - there are no nests in the hedges anyways...already checked

We got a mixed bad ass hedge roots removed using the workers Isuzu Trooper! Just Tie a rope around a stump, the other to the trailer-hitch - wack the jeep into 4x4 and let rip (gently at first). I'd say you need to loosen the soil a good bit first. Wouldn't use your car though.

That would be the ideal solution, but I've no access for vehicles (or mini digger) to the back garden......

I've tried forking the ground & the roots seem to stretch for miles & weave into one another, so its almost impossible to get leverage.

I'm gonna try cutting some low & using a strond 'root out' formula to see if that works
