Sharing NTL Broadband with Wireless

Has anyone out there managed to get the NTL Cable broadband shared over a wireless network at home ?

I have an existing machine at home that is connected to broadband upstairs in the box room. The machine is over a year old and intend to get a new one for xmas.
I'll use the new one for games and work, bringing the older one downstairs, connecting it to the TV. The features I intend to use are,

Simple file access from the new machine from downstairs to the machine upstairs.
Would the bandwidth be high enough to play movies directly from the machine upstairs ?

Browse the web downstairs on TV

Record programs from Sky Digital using a TV tuner card (RF-OUT)

    Many Thanks.

    :D

    My setup

    NTL hardwired to FreeBSD Firewall/Gateway

Internal nic to local switch, AP hardwired to switch

    desktops hardwired to switch

laptops access local network/internet wirelessly via AP

obviously there's 101 different ways to do it.

    Get yourself a Wireless Router.
    Look at this http://www.firewallguide.com/wireless.htm

I have it set up in my place. The ntl modem goes to ethernet port in my computer. A usb wireless 11g dongle is connected to my computer and one to the computer downstairs. Enabled internet connection sharing on my computer. Voila, wireless ntl.

Quick and dirty way of doing it.

Picked up two of these - 3Com Officeconnect Wireless 11g USB 802.11g 54 Mbps, WPA from komplett. €44 each but a good investment. Might look at getting a WAP/wireless router sometime down the road if we get another computer in the house. At the moment though, these work perfectly well.

    No problem,

give a shout if you need a hand setting anything up. They are pretty straight forward, but you never know :)

Great stuff Boro. I'm sick and tired bringing my PC downstairs just to watch porn with my girlfiend (sic)

    Thanks

    My set up:

NTL modem linked with ethernet cable into Apple Airport then beamed onto my Mac.

Took 4 minutes to set up.
