the second concert was a better show, but i enjoyed the 1st one more. i had gotten up from my sick bed for the october show and spent most of it trying to stay vertical, while sum little fu<kwits tried moshing.
olympia was too hot and had no water so that was a bit of a downer whereas the ambassador provided it. However that gripe is with the venue not the band

i was extremely ill so i was trying my best 2 stay standing so i dont remember too much of it. Lee dorrian was a bit mental-pretending to hang himself with the microphone cord

HEY! Finland has loads of other great bands like 69 Eyes, Negative, New Dawn Foundation and NOT, I repeat NOT the bloody Rasmus.

HIM are a good band, not brilliant but good.

69 Eyes on the other hand are brilliant. A great rock band with catchy riffs and unmistakeable vocals. Excellent band:-)

    .....Children of Bodom are Finnish.

But more on topic, "HIM", are not a very good band. At all. Anyone who thinks so needs to listen to alot more music....unlike many I wouldn't call HIM fans mini-moshers or retarded metalheads or whatnot, they're simply unexperienced. Some HIM fans might go on to listen to good music, who knows.

Oh and why do I not read the earlier posts dates? That's the second time it's been brought up from the grave. *slaps head*

I dont mean to start flaming or anything but I love HIM, I am not inexperienced. just cos they dont fit your definition of "good music" doesnt mean there arent others appreciate it. I may despise the music you listen to...but i do really really like Children of bodom, that you mentioned. each to their own...

Ugh, even though you're not calling us mini-moshers you're far more annoying! The way you're talking you sound like you must be the opposite of "unexperienced". So name a few bands similar to HIM that you think are better?

The way you're talking you sound like you must be the opposite of "unexperienced".

Not at all, I still have tons to learn in the ways of music, I'm just passed the HIM stage, as it were :) .

Depends what you mean by bands similar to HIM, same genre or same style or what? Explain and I'll do my best, but I can't promise anything...

Well what would you recommend that might make me less inexperienced? You must have been thinking something when you posted the previous post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,958 ✭✭✭Fobia

Well if you want general music advice, I'd recommend listening to some "Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young", depending on your age you may or may not have heard of them...most of their hits were around the Woodstock period (that's not calling you young or anything, it's not like I was around at that time, either.).

If you want to keep in with the heavy (ish) stuff, I recommend listening to Sigh, or even some of the more mainstream bands such as Children of Bodom or Dark Tranquility.

A great band for "general use" is "Arcturus", you've probably heard Karl-Hungus pimping them before, but as much as listening to something he recommends might hurt you, they actual have alot of top-notch stuff :) .

HIM best Finnish band? Nah. That award is reserved for the wonderful Sonata Arctica. :)
HIM... they're not diabolical, but they're not the greatest band in the world by any stretch of the imagination. It's the obsessive HIM fans that annoy me though. The ones that spend the entire time going "OMG... Ville Valo is soooooo hot..."

Well the thing about Ville Valo is that he's supposed to be a really nice guy. Fame has not in any way effected him (excuse the pun). He's friendly and modest and can be seen in and around Helsinki just socialising with mates frequently.

    /me puts away flamethrower

personally HIM and their heartagram make me wince but there is no need to insult poeple that like them....unless they happen to be your best friend and they like them.....then i rip the piss to high heavens :D
I think Bam Margera is the worst thing(bar the heartagram) that has happened to them....talk about a credability reduction....

I thought they started out pretty good, but as they go on, and since bam came on the scene the music is getting more and more poppy and radio friendly. There was an old song they had called "for you" which was excellent, really miserable sounding. IMO, the band have changed their sound to please the public, which makes em sellouts

    i hate them, they suck

Boo-urns. There are few bands/artists I'd be willing to openly criticise as I realise the existence of varying musical tastes but... eugh, awful. "Greatest band in the world" - pffft, maybe in their local village - maybe.

Fully agreed but 'wings of a butterfly' has definitly came across as the most radio friendly song on my limited listen of the album.

Tbh i haven't heard any of there early stuff b4 they appeared on MTV and the like, but i think that the stuff that appears there is fairly plain and boring and i wouldn't rate them at all.

From what i've seen they're not that talented but i could be wrong. I've never even heard of any links between them and bam b4 but iaf who gives a crap about what bam thinks, the guy is a moron! There is/was a similar thing with AWK and CoB but i wouldn't think any worse of them for it.

What is HIM's best album? i might have a looksy, then maybe i can make a better judgement on wether they should be classed as a good band or not.
Best Band Ever, i think not iaf.

HIM? Best band in the world?! Methinks back to a time when the Beatles were told Ringo Starr was called the best drummer in the world. One of them, George Harrison methinks, responded, "Pfft! Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles, never mind the world!" There's a lesson in there for people who call HIM the best band in the world. ;)
