Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Galway Oyster fest

[Note to mods: I thought about where to post this but this topic could be posted in several places and since After Hours seems to be the most viewed board I selected it. But if you disagrees and chose to move it, amen.]

In any case, my wife, myself and another couple will be traveling from the states to Galway in the end of September. Apparently there is an Oyster Festival which the Sunday Times (London) calls the 12th best show on earth (according to their website). And while none of us like oysters, we do like parties (and beer). There are several events all of which are too expensive and we can't afford. So I'd like to know if anyone has been to this fest, if it is truly the 12th greatest show (and no, I have no idea what the other 11 are) and if there's the possiblity of cheap tickets available during the event.

    Thanks.

Well, the Oyster Festival itself is usually just a lot of self-congratulatory, obnoxious, vapid, moronic twats standing around talking ****e for the night. It'd be the sort of crowd one might expect to meet in the Fianna Fail tent at the Galway Races really. But, don't let that put you off Galway. There's plenty of great bars to explore. Try to avoid anything that's blatantly aimed at Americans an you should have a great time.

A couple of pubs worth investigating if you want to see what real Irish bars are like would be Taffe's & Freaney's on Shop Street (some great trad in Taffes), O' Connors in Salthill and if you fancy a taste of the fifties, hit Cuba* on Eyre Square on a monday night for the Black Magic Swing Band who are excellent.

Say no more! That's what I expected...
