Asia air traffic doubles as SARS fades

    June 29, 2004 09:52
Figures this morning show that Asian airlines recorded a 108% rise in international passenger traffic in May compared with the same month a year ago, confirming their full recovery from the impact of SARS.

Globally, the annual growth rate was 38%, the International Air Transport Association said in a statement released by its regional office in Singapore.

The outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome struck East Asia in the first half of last year, devastating the air travel industry as tourists stayed away for fear of catching the disease.
