Eircom IP range

Has anyone come across this before

We have a client who have just signed up with Eircom for Broadband. We needed 3 useable IP addresses and applied to Eircom Net for a block of 8 addresses.

We got this block in the range 83.70.x.x/29

We tried to use this range which initially worked. But when we tried to connect to certain sites we were blocked. After much 'support' from Eircom they have said that this range is blocked by certain servers on the Internet - with no explaination.

We had to apply to have this range released and reapply for a new and different range. They have now come back to us and said that there is no other range available.

What is going on here? How can they give an IP range which they know will not work properly? What can we do now?

    Any ideas or suggestions.

    Have a look here:

    http://openrbl.org/dnsbl1.htm

    http://www.senderbase.org/search

It might give you an idea of where the address range has been blocked, and what you might be able to do to unblock it.

a lot of the 83.70 ip scope is in the black list of some Isp's. Afaik eircom bought a lot of blacklisted Ip's when they were in a rush to get their Dsl up and running.

workaround: use proxy server 'webcache.eircom.net' port 82

fix: contact eircom, tell them to contact the isp that your having trouble with and get eircom to request the isp to take the 83.70 Ip in question out of their blacklist

    Thanks Ando and ChipZilla

We are going to use use proxy server 'webcache.eircom.net' port 82 but I would prefer not to have to. I cant use the local proxy server if I do.

Configure the local proxy server to use webcache.eircom.net:82. (It may be referred to as "proxy chaining" in your documentation).

83/8 was allocated to RIPE in November 2003. Prior to that, the range was IANA-reserved and filtered by bogon lists at many routers to prevent abuse. From what I've read, some providers were slow to update their bogons, causing all sorts of problems for users in Europe on this new range. A few providers may still be blocking 83/8.

Eircom also has the 159.134.x.x range and another range beginning with 203 or something. BT has at least three ranges, 193.120.x.x, 213.202.x.x and 195.y.x.x
There should be no reason why Eircom cannot give you an IP on a different range. You could also consider getting your own IP range from Ripe and get eircom to add it to its routing system.

I was told today that Eircom were phasing out the 213 range. (source is sound)
