Fun, if small, game at the 20-in last night in the Fitz. Nothing remarkable except one hand that is still making me smile this morning.

For some reason I think I've stood on the toes of some of the "gang" in there who alternately seem friendly/grumpy towards me, seemingly depending on the day! Now Vivian is a decent skin and a tremendous tournie player, very underated imho, but he doesnt like playing at my table because if I'm in chatter-mode it drives him nuts. I like driving my opponents nuts sometimes, particularly the "gang" which might explain the first line of this paragraph!

So I get to the second last table and theres vivian who beat the **** out of me earlier on and caused my only rebuy. I look around the table for danger players and there's Viv, Gavin(Samson), Derek/Derril (big bloke, red hair) and Paul (the old guy who was bugging Rossa!). I've amassed a reasonable stack but its not going to get me to the final table just yet... I'm playing tight aggressive big time after recently chucking away decent stacks at 2nd last table.

I look down and get AQ in the hole, not bad but I know I play it wrong a lot so I put in a minimum bet and lose everyone but Vivian. Flop comes 446, check from him check from me. Turn is a 9 , check check. Rivers a Jack. Vivian tosses 2500 into a pot that cant be worth more then 1000. I have about 7000 left. So after a long soak in the tank-tub I reraise him all-in. The bet, the whole hand is screaming at me that Vivian missed just as much as I did and has none of it. Ok, neither do I but he doesnt know that! Vivian mucks it without a great deal of thought. I turn over the bluff and show it to see if I was right as I need a read on Vivian badly since I play him a lot. Oh, I get a reaction alright... Viviant gets up fuming both at me and at himself, claims he had a pair (which on reflection he did imho... 4's!). He's fit to be tied, takes his cap off, holds his head, stares at the cards and then storms off for a smoke.

We play 3 whole hands before he returns and for a guy who, only earlier was chiding Derek and I for over-analysing a hand, by god would he not shut up about it. He had steam literally tooting out his ears! I couldnt keep the smirk off my face while trying to keep the dealer between me and Viv so he cant see me! Samson keeps looking over at me making me laugh!

No word of a lie, about half an hour later he looks down the table at me and visibly peeved says "Ace ****in' Queen" and the whole table breaks into giggles.
We both got to the final table and despite winning some really big pots he kept pointing at my chips saying "Those are the only ones I want". I was playing so tight by this stage I was a catholic schoolgirl.
At one point he was BB and I small, I had 10,2 and just decided to give up the 1500 blinds to Vivian. I put it down and he slams down kings and says "raise ye cuntcha!", by then even he was laughing about how far on tilt he was!

Fair dues to him but he bounced back hard and was only knocked out 4th by a bad beat on the river at the final table (not by me!) after a misdeal claimed back the card that would have had his opponent drawing dead.
I went out 3rd, I was just too small stacked compared to the other 2 too even suggest a deal, I only had about 20,000. 300 notes for a nights cards, cant complain!

How did Kevin the lawyer guy (grey hair+glasses) do? He could not miss a card at all on table one, took every pot he entered he won, he had a huge stack when I left.
I went all in on 66, he had bullets, hit trips on the flop and i didn't even stay to see the turn card.

Ok, eveeeeen though it's rebuys (how many???) I may go, I was so bored last night and when I thought of it, it was 9.30 already! Is it a good night of poker?

Is Vivian the old guy with the squeeky voice, kind of american twang to it?

It's 2 rebuys and a top-up or 3 rebuys. So the most you'll spend is €83. Kevin and Teddy did a deal AFAIK, I was on my break when Vivian and DeV went out and when I came back down it was all over.

Both Kevin and Teddy are excellent players imho... I dont like tangling with either of them. They were close enough that once I was gone I expected that they would do a deal alright. Teddy did the better of the two at last table and Kevin took a kicking from me when my A10 hit a 10 and an ace against his K10 with me all in...
All the same he had SUCH a mountain of chips when final table formed that he didnt really care!

Yeah, I was mighty impressed with him filling a whole rack with yellows - 20,000 in chips, and it wasn't like we were buying them up at the time. He had good run of luck, but played lots of hands very impressively aswell. must have been 750 each if they made the deal.

Aye, I thought they gave too much to first and too little to the rest of the final table. The prize structure was
    1. 1000
    2. 500
    3. 300
    4. 200
    5. 100
    bubble

Which means first got paid almost the sum of all the other prizes. This is why a lot of people deal when it gets down to 4 or less because the pressure of the blinds and the inherently more "random" nature of short handed play means people arent willing to bet that much when they can guaruntee half of it...

Of course, I wasnt saying that the weeks when I won but then again the top prize then was 850! now its regularly over 1000, in fact last night was small...

Lafortezza, your all in on that hand against Kevin saved my ass (for a while anyway!). UTG I was sitting on Queens, hence the raise, then you moved all in, and Kevin called. (Without that all in he would have re-raised me all in, which with ladies I would have called). I called myself, flop comes down AKx and its an easy fold despite loosing half my stack. And people were giving me stick at the table for not moving all in with the ladies???? Dont understand that. If you have around 10,000 why risk it all in one hand preflop?

yeah last night was remarkably small. for instance on sunday the top three did a deal splitting 2350 between them, and last wednesday when rossa placed top three got 900 each.

Kevin is a very good player alright. Which guy is Teddy ?

Small, stumpy and a bit balding, he has something to do with the club too (I think he part owns it!). Nice enough bloke when he doesnt have cards in his hands!

Because then you might never see that flop :):)

Guys, for a guy that loves his poker but has never played in a casino, how are the regulars towards newbies and would Wed nite be the night to play for a first time??

    Thanks

Depending on the amount the blinds are at, heads up is one of the best "reading" opportunities and its much more about the player then the cards.

What percentage of their stacks were the blinds?

Hey! come tonight, its free!!!!! Re-buys can get ridiculous so if you want to spend money, bring some (makes sense)

You can succeed for free however..

regarding my above post, I just love heads up, I'd agree on 800/700 just to get a game of heads up:)

threebeards, tonight's the night. See the sticky by musician at the top of the page to learn all about it. You're better off starting with the free-roll, rebuys are only a tenner, and that works out a lot cheaper than a hard night at wednesday's twenty in.

I'd love to - the only thing is, I'm in Mayo so a simple trip to the Merrion means a fair bit of planning and a spin from one side of the country to the other!! I'm gonna try and arrange it over the next few weeks though. I'll let you know in good time and maybe arrange to meet up.

well if your coming all the way from Mayo, you might be better off going to the 20 on wed or the 100 FREEZEOUT on monday, you'll leave with cash in hand rather than a ticket to the thursday at the end of the month which you may not be able to attend.

If you think your good enough for the 100, go for it, or maybe the 50 with one 50 rebuy on friday night.

These are all in the Fitzwilliam casino by the way, 68 second walk from the merrion.

    mmmm catholic schoolgirl.......

oh wait, sorry. Yeah, Kq on the pre-raise flop-turn. Definitely an all-in side bet scenario at 53:1 odds [insert extended pokernerdism here]

Mayo. Now from what I remember from my treks around the country that'd be right beside galway. Check out Jaden's thread on the forum.

Kevins taken all my chips enough times for me to know full well he has something when raising! The funniest excuse of the night I heard was some dude who went all in against my Jacks early on with 10-7 os preflop. He hits two 10's for his trips, obv, and seems chuffed. When quizzed as to how he could go all in on that crap he proclaimed "the chap two hands before went all in on 10-8 (s) and hit trips, so I reckoned I'd do the same"!
