I just got a Linksys Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch (EG008W) for just under €100 in the states.

    So far so good.

    Cons
Some reviews say that it runs too hot.
It does has an annoying fan noise.

    Pros
The external power supply is dual voltage so just needed a plug adaptor.
Dropped it into my home network and PC came up with "speed 1.0Gbps" :)

Roll on the next lan party!

Presumably, PC already has a Gigabit NIC? Which one, and how much did it cost you?
