    The Microset Sessions

    Sunday 11th July 2004. 8pm €4

Line Up (in no particular order)

    • Miriam Ingram
    • Derrick Devine (Ellison9)
    • Joe Chester (ten speed racer)
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction

The Microset Sessions are back with an excellent line up at the sessions this Sunday (yes, Sunday) which have been temporarily moved from their traditional Friday night slot due to overzealous booking by disco freaks. Sessions are now Sundays at 8pm, every 2nd Sunday, so 11th, 25th July and 15th and 29th of August. From Sept we’ll be back to the regular Friday night Sessions with a new website and all sorts of other things...kinda..

Anyway a bit more on the line – up….

    • DERRICK DEVINE
Great opportunity to catch Ellison 9 front man Derrick Devine in mono for a laid bare set of solo and band material. Devine, two guitars and some amazing songs. Don’t miss it!

    A bit about Ellison 9…

Fronted by Devine on guitar/vocals, Dublin-based rock band
ellison9 derived their name from (amongst other things) a care unit in an American hospital for people with serious heart defects.

Counting acts such as Calexico, Nick Cave, Elliott Smith and dEUS amongst their influences, ellison9's sound places quiet, gently plucked guitar numbers alongside louder, angrier moments. Dark, intelligent lyrics and melodies combine with off-kilter guitar lines, bass, drums, violins and even the occasional blast from an orchestral trumpet.

In May 2004 the band released their debut E.P. ‘Go Down’ to wide-spread critical acclaim. Songs from the record received considerable airplay from the national radio stations as well as being playlisted on a number of local stations around the country.

    Recent reviews…

‘…enchanting, sublime and relaxed layered electric sound. The harmonies are faultless, and the violins and trumpets are a real treat. Intimate, haunting and quite addictive.’
    Hot Press

    ‘beautiful’
    the Sunday tribune

‘…melodies make for perfect night-time listening, beginning gently and evolving into ethereal treasures'
    Iris Magazine

    • WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION are coming…..

    Fergus Cullen: guitar/vox/keys
    Bryan O’Connell: Drums
    Gavin Prior: amplified percussion/Guitar/electronics

    WMD live at www.desertedvillage.com
They will have their debut cd-r on sale at the gig.

Weapons of Mass Destruction are creating a sensation around Dublin and beyond with their unique brand of sindustrial® adult contemporary. They are truly a supergroup: The Lead guitarist from Papercop, the Drummer from El Diablo and the contact mic scratcher from Murmansk: What could possibly go wrong? Nothing so far. After just one poorly - atteneded gig, the word is on the street; producers are clamouring for tracks to remix and journo-types are ramming rocks of base coke up their arses to fuel the most gushing torrent of praise since the third Cactus World News album. WMD went on to play the Spiegeltent 2003's Dublin Fringe Festival and the Ballroom of Romance. Weapons music is beyond rational comprehension and true enlightenment can only be achieved at a live gig but for now, Whet your appetite with these quotes from fellow artists and the music press below.

Praise for Weapons of Mass Destruction:
"Janis Joplin Breast-feeding LSD to Tiny Tim at a Ramones reunion gig in Heaven"- MOJO
"Breathtaking; like making love to Kim Gordon on crystal meth" - Lee Ranaldo
"A great night out" - Michael Barrymore
"Noam Chomsky on Acid" - The Wire
"Papercop in an Armagh cattle crush getting pumped in the rump with angel dust by Murmansk" - Jackie Healy Rae, TD
"Let WOMD **** yr world today" - Ronan Keating, entity

    • JOE CHESTER

Multi talented Ten Speed Racer guitarist and great solo artist to boot, Joe Chester is also an accomplished producer and engineer, which has led him to work extensively with artists such as Future Kings of Spain, Sack, Hailte, Nick Kelly and many others.
It was in Ten Speed Racer that his talents as a songwriter began to take shape and a solely produced entire album of original songs illustrating his unique and catchy abilities was the result.
His lyrics, vocals and music are perfectly matched and have a beautiful seamless quality that is rare in todays terms. Check him out.

    • MIRIAM INGRAM

Wilde Oscars, many moons ago, were a fabulous band. Miriam Ingram was instrumental to that band and her current line up is one that reflects an understanding of soundscapes and a knowledge that’s based on experience. Her song writing traverses subconscious and conscious constructs seamlessly as do the melodies which are sometimes haunting but float with a purpose tightly arranged, sonic and…well bloody marvellous. Don’t miss it!
