C:\ was Fat32 and after resizing would not dual boot.

this was cos the BOOTSECT.DOS file was setup for the original disk size.

So SYS C: so it would boot to command prompt
    ATTRIB BOOTSECT.DOS -r -a -s -h
    DEBUG
    L 100 2 0 2
    r cx
    200
    n boot.dos
    w

Then use BOOTPART (download if first) to make NT/2K/XP bootable afterwards.

[the preceeding presumes your system is FUBAR - if not then don't..]

Strange. I resized a Fat32 boot partition yesterday with no problems. What OS(es) were you using (for future reference)?

Strange as it may seem some people have been know to SEARCH before requesting a solution to their problem.

Resizing was done with QTparted on Knoppix CD
(It also has a sub menu for the external tool NTFSresize)

The exact problem was that I could not use the NT boot menu to boot into Win9x.

When you resized the partition what warning did it give ?

    Should have heeded it :)
Rewriting your boot sector should do it.

    warning's are for wimps :D

Never any problem booting to either version of windows - just didn't dual boot. (bootsect.dos is a bootsector and the debug script was a way of saving a working one so NT4/5 could then load Dos/Win

The old MIRROR util from DOS5 (not 6 !) could have been handy too.
