Anyone Know the particulars in servicing a 2000 1.8 Primera with 65,000 miles on it, as I am seriously considering going to advance pitstop for a service, for the usual stuff, liquid top ups, change oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs etc. for €120 at advance pitstop, compared to min €230 at Nissan, plus in Nissan I'd lose the car for a day while advance pitstop do the service while you wait.

money is tight so I was hoping to avoid a Nissan garage even though they seem to be a little cheaper than other marquees for services.

anything else I should know, like do the belts need to be changed, I've tried googling for info but can't find it and the www.npoc.co.uk website is now a pay website so I can't ask in the forums their.

Ask around for a reliable independent garage/mechanic around your area. The only job , I recently got a service done on my 2.0i Accord including change of timing belt and change of plug leads .

    Cost to me , only 189 of our €uro's , couldn't be bet with a fu**in huge stick !!

I would not take my car to advance or any of the others like them, not if they paid me. They will change your oil & possibly recommend that all your brakes are shot but don't examine anything else.
Check your handbook for other nissan service checks (coolant, fault diagnosis, etc.)
Your best bet is to find a nissan specialist - cheaper than main dealer but just as good.

    Hi,

If there's 65,000 miles on the clock is it not due for a 60,000 mile service? - i.e change timing belt, water pump and then a standard service after that?

Just wondering, maybe Nissans are different but my Seat underwent its 60,000 mile service in November and it was close to €500 for the service and it had the timing belt and water pump changed :/ (Labour is the expensive part!)

Don't skimp on a 60,000 mile service, its one of the biggies! If its got a cambelt then it'll need changing. Good idea to flush the coolant system and renew, change the brake fluid.

Dunno about the water pump I'd only change that if it was starting to fail (they give plenty of warning as a rule - either leaks or noisy bearings).

    Mike.

I am pretty sure i will be booking the car into Nissan, just to be sure, it runs prettty well, but i have not had it a year yet as i bought it second hand, my onoly trouble is losing the car for the day as i live in navan and work in dublin.

I'll let you know how i get on, my biggest worry is the labour bill, ford were always great at that charging xxx amounts of labour to do basic stuff.

There is Liffey Valley DG Nissan is about 3 miles away from where i work, or Belgard Nissan(who i won't go to as I didn't like there customer service there when i was looking at a car the sales person made me feel like i should not even be speaking to him, and as a result lost my business not too mention that the primeras he had where 1000 more expensive then every where else and his trade in price on my old car was a 1000 cheaper than other places)

On the other hand when i dealt with liffey valley for recall work on the car they where great very couteous, friendly, on time, and informative, when i had to wait a few minutes for the car i was given coffee newspaper, they even wahsed my car and topped up some of the fluids for free.

I was just trying to save some money but seeing as it is a major service i may as well just spend the extra cash and nissan will do a "proper" service, as i really depend on that car travelling up and down to dublin from navan every day.

AFAIK all of the petrol primera's have timing chains and they're unburstable.
