Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Arsenal and Manchester United have retained their place among the group of top seeds in the Champions League.
But Liverpool and Chelsea will be in the pot of second seeds with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Inter.
Uefa seedings for the Champions League:

    1. Real Madrid
    2. Valencia
    3. Barcelona
    4. Manchester United
    5. Bayern Munich
    6. Deportivo La Coruna
    7. Arsenal
    8. Porto
    9. AC Milan
    10. Liverpool
    11. Juventus
    12. Internazionale
    13. Roma
    14. Lyon
    15. Chelsea
    16. PSV Eindhoven

    19. Celtic
    25. Rangers
AC Milan 9th?!? Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona the top 3, and Deportivo completing the spanish domination with 6th seed.

Apparently having a brutal season is the way to go...

Liverpool seed above Chelsea? I don't understand, they made good progress in the Champions League and finished second in the league.

I beleive the previous winners should always be seeded first .

Manchester Utd 4th , I know im not exactly a fan of Man Utd but come on ........4th:eek: .

3rd in the Premiership , won the FA Cup and knocked out in the last 16 of the Champs League .

Ac Milan should be top seeds , PSV Eindhoven rated above Ajax !!! (Ajax won the league and all . )

The first 3 clubs being Spanish .

Something tells me that money was invloved in putting teams where they are :( .

Valencia are broke , thats one of the reason Mr. Beneitz left to join liverpool.

Maybe you should read you sig again as thats the only way the teams are where they are.

I didnt say Valencia were the ones dishing out the money .

3 Spanish sides in top 3

2 were only playing in the UEFA Cup last season .

and who would have control Spanish sides beside UEFA and FIFA ?

Seedings are based on how clubs have done in europe in the past ,which for Utd has been excellent, hence the high seeding.

The seedings are based on UEFAs coefficient ranking of all clubs. Those with the better records in European competitions over the last few seasons will have a higher coefficient, hence the higher seeding.

This seasons coefficient doesnt seem to be published yet but here is last seasons:

Top group: 1 AC Milan (Ita, holders, 97.155), 2 Real Madrid (Spa, 151.769), 3 Manchester United (Eng, 136.170), 4 Bayern Munich (Ger, 124.566), 5 Lazio* (Ita, 106.155), 6 Arsenal (Eng, 105.170), 7 Juventus (Ita, 100.155), 8 Deportivo La Coruna* (Spa, 98.769).

    Second group: 9 Inter Milan (Ita, 93.155), 10 Porto (Por, 86.791), 11 Celta Vigo* (Spa, 86.769), 12 Galatasaray* (Tur, 78.495), 13 Lyon (Fra, 76.734), 14 Panathinaikos (Gre, 72.391), 15 Borussia Dortmund* (Ger, 70.566), 16 Chelsea* (Eng, 70.170).

    Third group: 17 PSV Eindhoven (Hol, 60.749), 18 Celtic* (Sco, 57.187), 19 AEK Athens* (Gre, 56.391), 20 Dynamo Kiev (Ukr, 55291), 21 Ajax Amsterdam * (Hol, 54.749), 22 Olympiakos (Gre, 54.391), 23 Newcastle* (Eng, 51.170), 24 Rangers* (Sco, 50.187)

    Fourth group: 25 Sparta Prague* (Cze, 49.975), 26 Olympique Marseille* (Fra, 49.734), 27 Stuttgart (Ger, 49.566), 28 Locomotive Moscow* (Rus, 49.520), 29 Slavia Prague* (Cze, 48.975), 30 Real Sociedad (Spa, 47.769), 31 Monaco (Fra, 45.734), 32 Besiktas (Tur, 33.495)

Apart from Milan as holders everyone else is in order according to their coefficient. If they stuck entirely to the rankings last season Milan would only be 9th seed as their record over the past few seasons is not good. Its clear to see why they are back in 9th position this season. Apart from winning it they have done almost nothing else along with all the other Italian clubs for the last five or six years.

The teams that qualify for the latter stages every season will always be ranked highly even if they do not win it or people think they are crap. UEFA do not look at domestic trophies or finance or who they think will have a good team. Its all mathematical. Except of course when deciding where to seed the holders.

As for this season UEFA probably feel that Porto would not justify being the top seed as their record isnt great apart from last season along with the fact that the manager and a number of players are gone.

IMO the top 6 seeds have been the most consistent performers in European competitions for the last five or six years and the coefficient will show that when it is published.

Valencia were finalists recently and coupled with Spains dominance before last year -is the reason for their high seeding.

Surprised AC are not higher though - guess has a lot to do with the Italians clubs record

Still dosent explain why PSV are higher than Ajax in the rankings .

they must have had a lot of success in the Uefa cup without winning the thing .

who remembers semi finalists of the Uefa cup ? .

Its pretty clear who has the better record between the two:

    PSV:
03/04 CL: Group Stage 3rd Place UC: Quarter-Final
02/03 CL: First Group Stage 4th Place UC: Did Not Qualify
01/02 CL: First Group Stage 3rd Place UC: Quarter Final
00/01 CL: First Group Stage 3rd Place UC: Quarter Final

    Ajax:
03/04 CL: Group Stage 4th Place UC: Did not Qualify
    02/03 CL: Quarter Final
    01/02 CL: Third Qualifying Round
00/01 CL: Did Not Qualify UC: Second Round
