Free Satellite TV?

I am soon moving house and I would love to abandon NTL in the process. I have heard that the BBC has made all of its channels freely available on satellite - the same satellite broadcasts about 70 other channels and radio too. The Irish channels are available with an antenna.

So with a dish, receiver and an antenna I could get about 80 TV channels including all the Irish Channels and the BBC channels - and no monthly subscription! I wouldn't get UTV and C4 - but I think I could live without them.

Does anyone have this setup up and running? How much would the equipment cost and are there any operators in Dublin who do the installations?

After NTL I'd love to cut out €ircon, but that's more difficult.

A good number of people have a FTA system running (including me). Look at the threads on the hosted/icdg/satellite board. Several places in Dublin do deals including http://www.satellite.ie and http://www.zintek.tv among others.

The URL below gives a list of all FTA channels that you can receive (some may not be receiveable due to the satellite they're on being beamed to different countries)

So can a single fixed dish pick up both satellites even though one is at 28.2 and the other is at 28.5?

Would an 80-cm dish be sufficient?

Yes - because they are so close.

Yes plenty big enough. 60cm would do too (size of Sky dishes).
