Didn't want to run up the old phone bills a few nights ago, so I tried messing around with wall turrets in single player and what not.

Here's what I found out by experimentation:

Wall turrets have built in motion sensors.

    What does this mean ?

    1) If you run passed a wall turret it'll shoot ya.

    2) If you chuck down a little sensor jammer yoke-a-majig, and run passed, it'll still shoot ya.

    BUT

    3) If you chuck down a little sensor jammer yoke-a-majig, you can

    a) Stand _still_ beside the jammer and blow the crap outta the turret without it ever shooting back

    or

    b) You can move a little bit until the turret pokes up, then stop until it goes back down, then move again until it pokes back up ... etc etc. If you do it right you can normally creep right past it in a few seconds without it ever firing back.

I tried this a few nights ago and it actually works very well for getting into enemy bases. (if you do it right). Unfortunately some git saw my little tricks (you know who you are !) so I thought I might as well post it here.

    Have fun ...

You don't need a jammer, it only detects motion. The jammer would be if there is an active pulse sensor in the area.

You can actually walk by an active turret, takes a lot of practise though, but is a lot better standing there waiting for it to drop. The motion is based on how far and how fast you move.

Oh yea, If someone places a camera near the turret your screwed Jammers won't stop it. (cameras are the most underused and proberly one of the best items).

Quickest way to kill it is blaster or ELF it like crazy then throw grenades while doing it. You will kill it on the 2-3 grenade.

You better be sure that the control station isn't manned cos that person can manually control any turret and frag ur sneaky ass

Blasters have been nobbled sadly, I use ELF/Chaingun w Grenades now. In most situations, there isn't time to stop-start past them, I just leg it past, ELFing all the time, take one or two blasts then heal up and go cause mischief.

Have you guys tried aerial mines? fuppin EVIL.

Yup, but if you're gonna be standing around the enemy base firing at the thing or moving passed it in stages, I think it's slightly advisable that you don't show up on the enemy radar for obvious reasons

    Stealth ma' boy, stealth.

As for running straight passed it, that works okay in open areas, but not so good in enclosed tunnels where you have to literally stand next to the thing (eg that level with the two bases right beside each other). You can still run straight passed it, but you're gonna bleeeed if you do.

Cameras, motion detectors, etc: Thats what God invented grenade launchers for

Arial mining: I tried it a few days ago, but I found it had limited potential because of the max of 3 mines (unless, maybe, you have a resupply depot near).
Hopefully you can prove me wrong Teeth

    Yadda yadda

I'd rarely try to run past a turret in an enclosed space - you get dead very quickly. However, running past it whilst ELFing it works very well.

Aerial Mining. Hmm I don't think it means what you think it means. What I mean is looking up when you deploy a mine, sometimes using your jets, to 'lay' the mine in mid-air - such as above the inside of a doorway. *very* bold. Just make sure you move away as the mine 'settles' or it'll go off prematurely.

The mine then detonates just above someones head as they enter. They never see it coming..

Wow - far out! Didn't know you could even do that!

*cackle, cackle, sound of evil plans hatching in head ... etc ... etc*

Hmmm ... ELFing it has never worked perfectly for me - it always manages to get at least one or two shots off. Must be doing it wrong ...

Yeah it's tough. It *will* get two shots off, the trick is to try and hop/dodge whilst keeping the turret painted with the ELF. It helps if the turret is in it's undeployed state when you make your move.

Nah - I was talking about doing quick fly-by's over enemy areas and strafing them with mines. Its hard to judge them tho'.

Damn - just noticed I could've put those last 3 posts into 1. Gah - damn this board - its such a distraction Must get back to project ...

Hey Dupre, was that me who stopped you blasting away our wall turret using the sensor jammer? =) Thought our power generators was out when the thing didn't shoot back

Here's a trick to deal with ceiling turrets. Run towards it and stand under it. The turret can't shoot you in this position and will pop back into the ceiling. Once it's back in then bugger off into the enemies base. Not sure if this works for turrets on walls and if there are 2 ceiling turrets you're basically errrm, dead!

*Grrrrrr* Yeah - bad luck me running into you in the enemy base - what with you normally sniping outside and everything

Nice trick with the ceiling turrets tho'. Does anyone know if this works for ground turrets ?
