Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

took the words right out of my mouth! yeah www.irishdrumandbass.com for the info and loads of cool heads on the forum, studio b at the legal eagle is a right laugh, the bassbin nights at the metropolitan are deadly as well, theres also the urban sprawl drum and bass / hip hop thingy at the belvedere once a month, and that crowd as well as the ghettoblaster crew do stuff at the temple bar music centre... oh and roni size dynamite mc and mc tali are playing in spirit on the 22nd as well... if you have broadband theres a thread packed full of drum and bass mixes floating about here somewhere too... big up yourself, if youve fifteen euro burnin a hole in your pocket then dillinja and clipz with support from the catalyst and mc dynamite tomorrow night should be a proper night out, peace!

    hi there,

I'm out of touch with the drums. I thought it would've died a long time ago, seems to be stronger now then ever before in dublin.

Also has a bit of a cult following, (with the website) does the scene stilll rely on druggas and being out of it to enjoy the music. That sounded bad but thats coming from a curious EX-weekender.

yeah its never gone away, and to be honest its probably stronger in dublin / worldwide than it ever had been right now... bassbin (the crowd who run the metropolitan of a saturday) are one of the most respected new ish record labels in europe [drum and bass wise anyway] - the whole scene is an awful lot less uk-centric than it was a few years ago, a good record is now as likely to come from boston brazil or belfast as from brixton or bristol... yeah it was always a bit of a cult thing ovre here but ironically with the death of the trance and hard house scenes in ireland [because children arent allowed in pubs anymore but they can go to underage metal gigs instead - hence the explosion of mini-metallers] its now one of the tightest and fastest growing scenes in dublin... thees loads of it around, which is great since its pretty much the most exciting form of dance music there is... as for your comments on gettin mad out of it and wrecked on drugs... well i never thought it was as bad the hard house and trance scenes for that, drum and bass was never actually meant to be dance to on loads of pills, it was invented during an 18 month pill drought in london by dj's who figured theyd keep their audiences if they played a reggae tune for everybody who was smokin dope at a rave at the same time as a hardcore techno tune for those few brave souls who were actually stupid enough to be takin what dodgy pills they had in london at the time [think of oldschool breakbeat hardcore tunes like "injected with a poison" and "void of ecstacy" - all erferences to really horrid drugs] - it was only with the arrival of the first mitsubishi pills that pretty much all dance music sped up by about 15 - 20 bpm and started using simpler melodies etc [hence the birth and boom of second wave trance, which replaced the original 303 sounds with simple synth riffs] that drum and bass sped up to a degree that rhythms became simpler and noises got darker and harder sounding... then in about 2001 when uk garage swent and nicked jungle's audience things got a whole lot better and more vocal and soulful tunes started to make an appearance.... the sound bassbin are at the forefront of is rhythmically complex and dubby sounding stuff, with lots of funk and reggae influences... so yeah you get your fair share of people who are their just gettin off their tits, although the metropolitan is a hell of a lot more civilised than switch was in that regard, but what with ecstasy being as unpopular as it is now [even though its cheaper than its ever been - one pill will cost you less than a pint in most places compared to costing the same as four pints just a few years ago:eek:] you'll notice most people arent doing anything stronger than a few bottles of tiger and a sneaky joint outside... so yeah no more than any other form of dance music, and probably a hell of a lot less.... :)
