Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cunning, very cunning. Only one exclamation mark in the entire message. Could you be blamed for thinking it was more serious than the "YOU HAVE WON GUARENTEED $$$$$$$ JUST SEND US ALL YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBERS AND YOU WILL BE RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!" messages?

Indeed Sarky, their cunning cunningness is indeed cunning.

The most annoying part of these scams is that some of them are successful. Seriously you really have to be a complete numbnuts to fall for this malarky.

I remember when they were hand written or typed letters though. I remember it well. My dad still has some of the letters he got cause he thought they were pieces of art.

No. If it was real it would be from the Spanish lottery.
They post them out too. And any organisation handing out that much money has got to be able to afford real letterhead, instead of smudgey inkjet.

Can't wait till one of the Tabloids publishes a story about somone who won millions this way..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Or the pleb who got the full force of the scam and how devestated they are, and how the internet should be banned as a result.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 92,615 Mod ✭✭✭✭Capt'n Midnight

    OMG - it's a scam !!
Does that mean I have to give my winning back ?

i suppose it was a bad analogy given that marty's hair is technically real...my only defence is that all the talk of lotteries and deception brough marty's now you see it, now you don't scalp to mind.

lol, they're still not asking for your bank details. They probably want to rope you in more before they ask.

If you found out who these people are, you could probably take them to the european court and make them cough up what they said they were going to give you. There has to be some EU laws about advertising matching the product and all that. I'm sure that would work..... not!

Don't bother visiting them.. they are serious people wouldn't have a problem doing damage to you.

Give it to the cops. Although this scam has been going around a while. My guess is that it will be a drop off or you get mugged beforehand.

If it were me, I'd see just how long I could keep wasting their time and money for fun.

Try telling them that due to your legal status and the amount involved, there will have to be an officer of the law present to witness the transfer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Just as a matter of interest. What is at that location?

If I was them, I would leave the place deserted and watch who knocked there and mug them on the street a little bit away (as you would be carrying money).

Keeps it all reasonably legit then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭gonker

new reply when i emailed them to say i couldnt get onto their phone number (I didnt try) and could they tell me how to get to dorset street.....in "THE IRELAND"

THIS IS MY NUMBER AGAIN( 00-353-860528698), PLEASE CALL, THE NUMBER IS IN ORDER SO I WONDER WHY YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH WHILE YOU ARE DUBLIN. PLEASE ASK THE STATION ATTENDANTS ON HOW TO GET TO DORSET STREET HERE IN THE IRELAND.

N:B- IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU APPLY FOR AN EXTENSION IN YOUR NEXT MAIL TO HAVE MORE TIME TO PROCESS YOUR WINNING AND COLLECT YOUR MONEY.

    CONGRATULATIONS

I am trying to string them along what can I say next....that I have a cheque that will clear after their cheque clears .....

Did you contact the garda fraud squad about this? Would be interesting to know their view on this considering they have given a real address in Dublin and a valid mobile number.

Have you rang this number yet?

Tell them you are waiting for a sterling cheque to clear, that it will take 5-7 working days. That should string them along for a little bit...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭gogo

check this out, the same letters as you and these all have the same ticket number and batch number etc, all with an address of 60 dorset street dublin.

    http://www.cellbiol.com/netwatch/nigeria/BBS/

look at lottery international winner and scams thread.
Also form a bit of googling
It seems that suzuki dealers( a motorbike shop) have the address of 60 dorset street, dublin.

you should report this although you have no real solid information for them to follow up, ie, fake address, etc.
Did you ring the phone number?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭gonker

no havent rang the number afraid to incase they track me down by satelite or something:D I dont know what I would say. Mad busy at the moment so might leave it for a day or two to string them along a bit more. :-) so its a motor bike shop wonder what they think of their address being used.
    gonk
