Reebok are in secret talks to withdraw Liverpools new away shirt. The company are unhappy that an ex-employee had put up pictures on the internet before the shirt could be released.
Spokesperson john walshe "We did have high hopes for this but unfortunately it has been a nightmare. Sales of the shirt are lower than ever and regrettably this have given us no choice but to re-design the new away shirt."

Despite the offer of holiday vouchers the shirts opening day release saw just 10 away shirts bought on its release at 1/7/2004.

Walsh "Supporters have complained viciously about the desing, the black markings were described as tyre marks by one supporter."

The new shirt will be released in the next 2 weeks and is likely to have the black lining removed.

Walsh "The new shirt will still be yellow but will have the "tyre" markings removed in new design. Supporters will be refunded should they choose to opt for a refund from the unsuccesful release."

So are they blaming poor sales of an ugly shirt on the ex-employee? Hardly his fault - if it's muck it's muck.

What is it with minging Liverpool away jerseys? That yellow one they had years ago was easily one of the worst I've ever seen. Is it something to do with Reebok or Liverpool themselves?

It is a rotten jersey alright.
Pornapster are you talking about the horrible all yellow jersey or the Adidas goldish coloured one with the black mixed in? The Adidias one was nice, the near flourescent Reebok one was God awful.

But Utd have had some shocking away jerseys too. The grey one, the green and yellow one with laces, the blue one with what looked like the Utd crest stamped on it in black.

Yeah the Reebok one was the one I was on about.

Yeah the grey and the blue ones were puke alright. I think the yellow and green one was for the centenery of Newton Heath. They wore more or less the same colours with the laces. It wasn't the nicest but I thought it was a good idea.

Yep, that's a pretty awful jersey! I can see Liverpool getting a good few away wins this season just down to the effect it'll have on the opposition alone.

As an aside am I the only one who's sick of designers purposly sticking in pointless flecks or vertical lines or 'go faster stripes' or whatever else onto jerseys so that they'll be noticibally different from last years version and therefore a 'must buy' item for the lemmings if you don't wanna be shunned from your football community.

Sure, this tactic of 'tweaking' probably increases sales but what good is that to society when you have a million overweight men and kids walking around in god-awful looking replica jersies?

What happened to the good old days of the late 80's where monotoned jerseys were the norm and a team would be deemed wildly adventurous if they had a little piping on the trim or a barely noticeable design woven into the fabric!

The premiership destroyed 'football fashion' (if such a thing exists outside the world of irony?) as far as I'm concerned! :)

yeah its an awful jersey, lol 10 bought on release! i think umbro and nike design the best jerseys, umbro imo are the nicest, usually plain and simple.

utd's jerseys are ruined no matter what they look like, with that big ugly vodafone logo, bring back sharp!

I like the Spurs away jerseys. They're pretty straight forward.

Nicest jersey ever was VFL Bochums from a few years back , it was reebok but plain white with the reebok insignia accross the shoulders. They used it for other teams but it wasnt as nice.

Barcelona's jerseys are nearly always nice (the home ones anyway, the less said about the grey and rusty/orange away jerseys the better).
And the major bonus with Barca jerseys is there's no sponsers on them.

On that topic, why is the Irish jersey one of the only national jerseys to have a sponser on it?

Eircom pay for that , its in their deal a lot of countries do it now following irelands lead.

i think the nicest jerseys are the dutch one's.

the away black one with blinding hints of orange is nice. there's nothing like few thousand orange jerseys all put together. (landsdowne '01), cracking sight and day).

yeah im not a fan of the eircom logo either, one thing i'll say, at least its white and orange, fits in with the green. spurs jerseys are nice if your an olympic swimmer or cyclist, far too tight!

did spurs not have a purple, harchester-esque jersey a few years back. Or am I just mad. Either way, down with purple.

last year the third kit was purple...an absolute outrage...the spurs jersey looks normal on me..its not tight at all..but thats because i am a stick!! got so much slags over it...on the subject of logos...the thomson on the spurs jersey is still red...it just doesn't fit in

Awful jersey. Fan's shouldn't mind it being replaced so long as anyone who bought the dropped jersey gets a refund/relacement.

The worst jersey in recent memory was Leed's orange/yellow away shirt with a colour gradient on the front. The first time I saw one on screen I thought the player had been sick on it until I realised that they all looked the same. Food poisoning perhaps ... ;)

I wonder if this replacement story is just to generate sales? - My first reaction was to consider buying one - for the novelty factor alone

Thats what I was thinking, I'd imagine if these jerseys are withdrawn they will become valuable.

On a side note I'm very disapointed with the Villa kit this year.
