XP crashes no ctrl+alt+del

hey, recently, well soon enough after i partitioned my harddrive using partition magic 8 and installed xp to my new partition, pc has been freezeing, it freezes and ctrl + alt + del doesnt work, some process's still work, i switch to them using ALT+ TAB, the task bar freezes also. should i run a virus scan ? i dont have…

should i run a virus scan ? i dont have norton installed, it damn well slows pc down.

can you boot into safemode?
Can you boot of Win cd's do repair-
Or even boot into safe mode and do system restore?
