Ha! hilarious.

Planetst****ige is part of the Planet network, planet-tribes isn't...

Turns out P-T offered PSS the name well before either site was set up but were told they didn't want it, now PSS have gone and gotten planettribes! <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> which basically fuk's up P-T.

Also turns out PSS ripped off most of thier tactics page from WON.net (word for word in some cases) and the rest the guy hasn't a clue how to play Tribes. Not to mention they ripped off the online manual site word for word, and also link to other peoples File sites and say it's theres.

Sad thing is.. PSS will proberly kill P-T.

Let me set the record straight on this:

Firstly, we registered Planet-Tribes.com way before PlanetStarseige began. We started life as a dedicated hosting service, and moved into news.Things took off, the place was humming, and our bandwidth went through the roof.

Then PlanetStarseige opened and the Gamespy people registered PlanetTribes also, pointing it to PlanetStarseige. Why? to **** us off, or at least, try to.

It is correct that we are not part of the Gamespy network, nor have I any wish to become part of it. Why? because I'm sick of the crap they post, (I'm not talking about PS directly here) and the way every site looks, feels and works the same. They buy up domains left right and centre, without even truly thinking about it. I expect PlanetShogo, KingPin and the rest are nowhere near as successful as they imagined they would be.

PlanetStarseige is NOT 'hurting' Planet-Tribes at all, in fact its actively helping it. I'm sick of the same-style Gamespy sites, and so are a lot of other people. I started Planet-Tribes as something different, and it works.

Planet-Tribes is generating over 1,000,000 page impressions a month and over 1500 users access it a day. At the Playing Fields last Thursday, everyone I talked to knew exactly what Planet-Tribes was, and more importantly, what we offer.

Tactics 101 is the definitive tactical guide to Tribes, and continues to be the most freqently accessed and referenced page from any other Tribes related site.

I have an excellent staff, all dedicated to the game itself, rather than the overlords at Gamespy.

PlanetStarseige lagged heavily in the release date stakes, and a lot of stuff was 'appropriated' from other sites. This has done no end of harm to them. We on the other hand, did all our stuff off our own backs, and it shows. Gamespy's Executive assumes that gamers are like any other 'consumer' and dumb - whereas we maintain no such misguided belief.

The other bug bear they have is that I also co-run Planet3dfx.com. this domain was registered by the other founder of Planet-Tribes, many months ago. It is a choice, much sought after domain, and Gamespy's Joost Schuur was most ****ed off that we got it. Well, after throwing his toys out of the pram, everything calmed down.

It all boils down to the simple fact that we (the Planet-Tribes crew) are in it for the enjoyment and the feeling of community. The Gamespy lot do it to make money. Its that simple. And gamers can spot the difference a mile off.

However, I get on fine with the editor of PS, G'Tang - and we've exchanged various e-mails with no feelings of hostility. He runs his site, I run mine. Its a competitive market, and the gamers will decide. From the latest figures, they've decided that Planet-Tribes, not PS or PlanetTribes, gives them what they want.

All websites run their course, and will eventually die* - and until then, I'll kepp going, having fun and supporting the community that has sprung up around this awesome game.
