Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it possible to know if an SMS was sent over the Net rather than a phone itself or does it vary with network to network?

check the message centre number on the text. The net ones have really different numbers compared to one sent via a phone.

A text by phone will have a 08* if its from an irish phone.

Also if the text is longer than 160 characters its from a phone as most net services dont allow you to send text longer than that.

Its possible for a net site to use an 35386/35386/35387 source number, but it would require setup on the telco side.

I recall an irish site a while back doing this from thier SMS send page, it faked the users number (after authorisation) and sent thru foreign network. The only way to tell for sure is by the message centre number.

Another semi-reliable way to tell is that messages sent from a mobile usually have a + at the start of the originating number.

Are you referring to sending it via the free webtext that most operators now offer or one of those free SMS web sites? Perhaps you can explain why you need to know!

Messages from 02's SMS portal come from 3538XXXXXXXX instead of +3538XXXXXXX, thats how i always used to check, some phones (like my T610) wont show the number once the name is in the phonebook though...

On the T610? naah, if it knows who sent a message, it wont show their number. I have pretty old firmware though, maybe they fixed it in the newer models
