Trademarks - Microsoft + Super Soaker

    I just noticed today that on my Super Soaker 65 XP (standing for Extra Power, of course) that the 'XP' had a tm symbol beside it.
    I'm wondering how Microsoft now have the XP name, can you buy trademarks ?

    Trademarks are not like copyrights. It is possible for two companies to have the same trademark as long as they are not competing in the same field.

    So you could have Apple (tm) computers and Apple (tm) Furniture store.
