Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I chose fluffer because fluffer is a name that is never taken. That way fluffer is my nick in almost everything. Its short, easily recognisable, and has multiple meanings.

Anyone who understands what a fluffer does in the porn industry will know why it is never taken.

Hmmm not an answer to your girlfriend's parent's question
"So what do you do for a living?"

There's a cave on our farm that supposedly the giant Dudara used to live in. The river that bounds our land flows through a little gorge where there are weird dents on the rock. These are called the "Fiacla" (teeth), and are apparently where Dudara fell over once when crossing the river.

The only thing with "Dudara" is that people automatically assume i'm male.

    BTW it's pronounced doo-dara

I also got in a fight with my dad when he was setting up an email account because he wanted to use dudara as well, but hey, it was already taken.

ixoy is an abbreviated form of ixianboy, a nick I used on IRC for an age (and still used elsewhere). Ixianboy is of course Ixian boy, or a boy from Ix - the planet that is the last outpost of advanced technology in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series.

Interestingly (or not), Ixoy when written in Greek and associated with certain symbology, translates as Jesus Christ, God's Son and Savior. So yeah, I'm actually the Son of God, come pack to judge ye and I find you all very very sinful and condemn ye to Hell! :(

A fractal is a sort of mathmatically generated image.. Relatively simple&straighforward to look at on the outside but more complicated the closer you look...

I guess I kinda like to semi-think of myself that way.. Also think fractal is short sweet and memorable. Also (to my surprise) seems fairly unique accross IRC channels/boards/free e-mail sites..

When i was first getting an email account about 8 years ago, i decided to put in something semi funny, so i put it as mr_boom_bastic, but soon enough all my friends started calling me mr_spoon_spastic, so that one caught on, and then i shortened it to spoon.

I've been a fan of the X-Files since it started & always thought the Lonegunmen were the best characters in it, so when I was registering on the original X-Files chatroom, I used it!

When I joined boards first I chose PhatFiesta, 'cause I drive a Fiesta [no sh!t sherlock ], but got fed up with that and reverted to my first online username [with a twist] ... boring :D

Huge fan of farscape. Picked a character at random and based by nickname on that. Stark is ambiguos enough that it doesn't have to be a purely Farscape thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭L5

There was a rather interesting character by the name of l4, or L4 im not sure on boards about a year ago. He seemed to wind a lot of people up and started a lot of rows. I presume he got banned, i decided to take his name up a level!

Et Voila, Jill Valentine. Also its sounds pleasantly pornish... I use it or something similar in nearly every forum or chatroom I use, though waaaay back in the old Bronze chatroom on the official Buffy site, I was <Shame-con> Kate Lockley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭The Roach

I've actually just set this up, but it's a nickname a few mates and myself came up with about 2 years ago.

We were discussing possible super-hero names for ourselves while drunk one night, and somehow I ended up becoming The Roach. The Roach has powers similar to a cockroach. Mainly that means that I would be able to withstand the radiation from a nuclear blast and the following fallout, but I would be killed in the blast so that woudn't help me much!
We also came up with a background story (we were really drunk that night!) I was bitten by a cockroach, but unfortunately it wasn't radioactive (what were the odds of that! ;) )or genetically mutated, so I get no cool exo-skeleton or increased strength etc. All I get is the ability to live in areas that nobody else can after Armageddon. Oh well.

Adam Mechon !!! (I know, I know, lazy guess)

Anagrams are fun, it would make a nice thread, but everyone would end up knowing each others names, and not everyone likes that idea.

I was getting really inventive when i was thinking of a nick at the signup. That lasted about 7 seconds and I gave up and just used my real name. I use Redneck for Cs & Dod. I was going to change my nick to that but my real name has kind of grown on me over the last 23 odd years.

Pretty much the same story here, but with more.

I signed up for boards under this current nick when I was between jobs back in February, and as I was sitting here chatting to a friend of mine over MSN messenger, he told me he was using boards.ie at the same time, so I signed up just to troll him  , and I was listening to a bit of the oul Wolfe Tones at the time, so in need of a name, I used the first name I heard.

Anyway, I disocvered the Soccer Forum, and decided to stay around. I was cacking it for ages that I was going to get kicked off boards for trolling, but anyway, I wasn't, and I'm still here.

Just for the record, my real name isn't Sean, and I'm not some kind of mad IRA head, I just liked the alliteration.

Now I use the name for anything on the net that requires a username, as it never seems to be taken

Its simple the name if the Nod computer system in Command&Conquer Tiberian Sun, I was stuck for a nick and kept finding that my first choice of nick that I had already been using for over a year was hard to reg on somesites as it was already taken (including boards.ie)

During a pretty heavy bout of insomnia, I changed my sin.ie username to Sleep Comes Tomorrow after the David Kitt song because every night I'd be the last one posting. When I tried to register it on boards.ie it was too long so I just went with what a lot of the boarders there called me...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,253 ✭✭✭gobby

Its just another version of my (real) nickname, Gob. That started as a slag when I was quite young and it has stuck eversince. I find that most of the time I will introduce myself as Gob before my real name.

Why Gob though...? Well, its related to my real name. (Gobalicious )
