Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anagrams are fun, it would make a nice thread, but everyone would end up knowing each others names, and not everyone likes that idea.

It's Ed MacMahon. I remember working it out once, because it's similar to my surname.

When i originally signed up on sin.ie i needed a name, and keysersoze was too long so i reckoned i need something shorter, so i had a think. Its kind of an adaptation of the Zoltan name from Dude, where's my car?, but i reckoned i couldn't use that name cos of the DWMC associations, so i reckoned Lord Zoton would be pretty cool, but too long so i shortened it to Zoton. I kinda hate it now, but since it's my name on so many boards i cant be arsed changing it.
Needless to say i was pretty p!ssed off to find out that its actually the name of some drug too, so i hadn't actually made it up. Damn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭Gyck

...Shortened from Gyck Ryder, an obvious term for someone who does rude things to peope from behind. I used it as a nic for q2 in work (obviously a few years ago) and then on to the net (and designed a pretty nice q2 skin to go with it, a lad with flaming red handlebar mustache, mohawk and aresless pants). I hopped around between that and Sister Ray for a while (obvious VU reference). I don't play a whole lot of multiplayer anymore (wayyyy to addictive) but still use the nic.

I was playing games on the internet and I needed a really cool *handle* so I thought and thought and thought and passed some suggestions round to my friends and family and they all agreed that I should go with this one. It's cool because it makes people think of Flash Gordon and sometimes gorgonzola and gin and even bourbon biscuits.

So I took the *nick* and I haven't looked back since. Quite happy I managed to get it actually, I must have gotten in just before all the others signed up. FLASH!

nick came from a combination of letters in my name, pretty boring really...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭elivsvonchiaing

Frustrated so many times trying to register my real name - just dreamt up a futuristic name - Von Chiaing - if I recall this was after reading that Chiaing Kai Chek's wife was still alive and she was 102 or something in 1999 or 2000. She was regarded as "royalty" by chinese american's apparently - I speak of her in the past tense - but for all I know she could still be alive! <yup too lazy to even go to google!>

Elvis - well it just felt right - (not that I eat sheitloads of hambugers and take prescription drugs like smarties! :D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,151 ✭✭✭dazberry

Daz is a nickname I picked up in a job nearly 8 years ago - no-one else calls me Daz - but if I happen to meet up with the old work crew - its still Daz.

Daz was taken, so having just watched Tombstone with Val Kilmer telling a couple of unfortunates he'd be their huckleberry before shooting them - I appended the berry.

    D.

Shortest name I could find for a mmporg called "Acheron's Call" years ago. Liked that it was short and have used it since, espacially since its the only one of my nicks that I haven't seen used anywhere else online. (Apart from the klez virus, lol)

Mine comes from a song of the same name by A Perfect Circle, about overprotection of children, and how parents shield them from the world, but in the process keep them from informing themselves or making their own decisions. (At the time I registered, my best mate was starting to question all the things his parents had told him that he had assumed true, about immigrants, homosexuals, drugs, etc.)

    It's also quite catchy.

and your sig is from the the Tool song "Die Eier von Satan", which I originally thought was a big dictatorship song, but really its just a recipe for a cake :D

Anyway, I got my nick after being posed the tough task of selecting a name for Quake. I just decided on Murderer ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,068 ✭✭✭stagolee

mines from a mississippi john hurt song about a criminal from the old days , sometimes you see it written as stack o' lee but i reckon thats not right cos if you listen carefully to the recording it sounds like he says stagolee , used it ages ago to sign up for something cos i was listening to it at the time. used it for pretty much everything since cos im lazy :)

Because I was trying to register a dot.com and fudgemonkey.com was already taken. So I settled with monkeyfudge.com, which I have grown to prefer.

    Why monkeys and fudge?

Well they're both just great, regardless of order, aren't they...?

Easy one here...my first name is Paul, and the first stock I ever bought (and made a nice profit on back in the bubble days...ah memories) was Iona Technologies.

Used to use 'funkdoggz' a lot, as I like funk, dogs, and the letter Z. My friend got 'funkenstein' on hotmail back in the day, lucky bastard. However I used to join chatrooms and mods, etc, would go crazy, thinking 'funkdoggz' was 'f**kdoggz'. Funk is a much better word in any case. Get the funk out of town. Shut your funking face. And so on.
