Van Hire - Where? Who? How much?

    Moving house soon so I need to hire a van so I was just wondering if anyone can recommend anyone in particular?

    Do you have commercial or private motor insurance yourself? If you only have private, a lot of companies won't hire you a van, because they require you to transfer your commercial insurance over to their van. If you find someone who can provide insurance for you on the van, you will pay quite a lot for it.

    I hired a transit van a while ago off Northgate for €42.50 a day for 2 days, but that was by transferring the insurance from my smaller van to it.

    just got a quote from Avis.
    no commercial insurance myself.

    Merc Sprinter - 102 plus VAT per day + (optional) collision insurance of 40 per day.
    Mitsu Canter - 121 plus VAT per day + (optional) collision insurance of 50 per day.

    When i was moving house last year i rented from Avis I got a Mitsubishi Canter and the insurance from them. You don't need a commerical licence(just a regular B licence) or anything as its under the weight limits although its like a box truck so it has more space then the transits and mercs.
