Heres the problem: When I try to play LAN/solo, I get as far as "initializing",then the machine seems to read the floppy drive, and then the dreaded blue screen pops up. It says: "Windows A fatal exception 00 has occurred at 0028 04DBF68 in VXD WSIPX(01) + 00000B78.The current application will be terminated."

Thats it.Aswell as the usual press any key to continue and pressing ctrl+alt+delete will restart your machine. So after pressing any key it cuts back to the desktop, and and the desktop res has changed to 640 x 480! This happens whether i set the desktop res to 800 x 600 or higher,or lower even. When I attempt to play online, all seems to go well,I have registered etc and entered my cd key,but when i enter my password and click login i get a few msgs "fetching server proxy list" until i get to "Validating login data" and then the pc attempts to read the floppy drive again and bang,i get the same Fatal Exception error msg as i entered above.

My System spec: pentium 3 600 mhz. TNT2 M64 32 mb, 128 mb RAM, SB Live(1020) sound card.

Any ideas? What kinda fault is this?
It has been suggested to me that :"It's ipx related. Try uninstalling the ipx protocol and reinstalling it." << what? How do i do that?
And : "make sure you have the Novell networking protocol installed (the version supplied by Microsoft). I found the solution on the Microsoft site as it applied to Epson network printers (!?). Weird."

^ Eh?? Any knowledge u have wud be appreciated.

I cann't see it being a IPX problem as on myselfs and Davs lan we have it running with no problems and we dont have IPX installed. Tribes has issues with video cards in a big way esp. nVidia cards check out tribes2.com and go to the support there.

I'm running an athlon 1ghz, 128mb RAM, TNT2 M64 32meg card, Creative SB live card with no IPX and i get the occasional "dropped to desktop" and no sound after that when i load up missions.

    It's gotta be something else..

You know people when you do find somebody, hold that woman, hold that
man, love him, hold him, squeeze her, please her, hold, squeeze and
please that person, give 'em all your love, signify your feelings with
every gentle caress, because it's so important to have that special
somebody to hold, kiss, miss, squeeze, and please.

    NARF!

Hobbes = Most helpful and nice boards member I know.
Answer me this though, when i click on properties in network neighbourhood,it says the following network components are installed: "client for microsoft networks", "dial up adapter", and "TCP/IP".
So is IPX not there?? What is it anyway??
And where to from here? smile.gif
    Thx.

have you tried that 1st AID kit for tribes 2?
When i emailed them i got this:Hi there,

    TRIBES 2 FIRST AID UTILITY

Many of the folks that are experiencing Unhandled Exceptions and other
problems (not all of the people...but *many* of them) are getting bad file
copies from the CD to their hard drive during installation. The CRC values
are different than they should be and it's causing all kinds of problems
with their builds. This is caused by several issues...bad memory, bad
motherboard, and even just bad CD drives. The utility attached will correct
that problem for the users and allow them to get a perfect installation of
the game. The people that have tried this utility so far have had great
success and many that were never able to run the game are now able to do so.

The instructions for using this utility are displayed when you double-click
the executable. One thing is not mentioned there...you SHOULD run a virus
checker on your machine also before running this utility. That way you can
be absolutely sure that a virus is not responsible for your problems.

Issues that this utility is likely to fix include:

-- Patches not patching correctly (getting hung at various positions)
-- Unhandled Exceptions after the intro movie
-- Unhandled Exceptions when the bioderm fires a missile in the first
    training mission
-- Unhandled Exceptions after 3-5 minutes of playing the game

Yes...this could actually be the "silver bullet" for many of our problems.
As I said...this has worked for MANY people...but it's not a guarantee. So
please...try it if you're having any of the above problems. If it doesn't
work, send us a note and let us know. But if it does...then ENJOY THE GAME!

I posted my reply in the Tech forum. Don't know if it can help.

    I would recommend.
    1. Uninstall IPX/SPX from your machine unless you are positive you need it.

    2. Go to Windows update page and update your system to latest patches.

Might be related to Winsock, or prehaps it's crashing that it can't find IPX (I'm reaching).
