It would be really nice if one TD or senator stated that they were openly pro gun,and were on no compromise issue on that.
Joe Higgins states that he's openly pro-socialist. I don't see it doing much good - he rarely gets to set policy, because he gets marginalised as a minority, and because there's "one socialist TD", any "socialist" ideas get routed to him and thence to the bin, in effect. If we had one "shooting" TD, the same would happen to our stuff. We don't want a tiny dedicated minority - we want mainstream acceptance and support.
somthing along the line of Sen Noirris.Whatever of his personal lifestyle, you got to respect him on the fact he stands his ground on gay issues, and is more respected for that.
Actually, I'd rather respect Norris for the fact that for several decades he's been the most consistent Senator in standing up for moral decency and human rights, rather than for his stubbornness...
Fact!but that doesnt stop politicos anywhere of the world from legislating on laws that they know little or nothing about, with no pertinent information from both sides of the arguement.
Indeed, and that's why the associations have to continually ensure that TDs are briefed on our sport and why it's Safe and Harmless.
True for both sides.Yet one can do a thing right first time,as well as doing it wrong.isnt it smarter to sit down and define an object correctly in law,but I suppose i am asking too much.
Indeed - but often the only way you find problems in bodies of law is to let them sit there for a while until test cases find the flaws.
BTW you do know that one of the"usual suspects" in the anti fieldsports/anti gun crowd does work in the Indo?.Names will not be mentioned to protect the guilty!
No, but we've always had a good working relationship with the Indo reporters and never any problems with them.
Again, they didnt know where to turn to,or to whom, and just lost intrest when they heard it would involve courts, solicitors etc.
    Yup. That's usually the case.
Hmmm do you think we will get the full monty or a truncated report and another merry go round when it comes to firearms issues, involving the FOI ombudsman, the gardai pulling the report under"national security" or some other smoke and mirror tactics, when embarassing matters crop up in the State? Still worth a try.
Worth the twenty quid for sheer curiosity I suppose. Of course, there's no reason to think they even gathered the statistics in the first place.

    Ex USMC,stays with you.
As I recall, so was Ron Kovic...
It did though, and we could have pushed on.
If you could have told back then what was going to happen in the next decade, then all I want from you are six numbers...
I think the killer was Dunblane [no pun]That put us back on the defensive again.
To be honest, apart from the example it gave, I don't think Dunblane actually affected us so strongly. Abbylara looks like it will have far more direct fallout to be honest.

I don't know who came up with the idea that the M16 uses a .764 round but you are incorrect (Musashi?)

Do you not realise that a .764" (1.94056 cms) round is larger than .50 or 50 calibre as used in the Browning heavy machine gun and long range sniper rifles e.g Barret Light 50

The M16, SteyrAUG, FAMAS & SA80 etc all use the 5.56mm (.223") SS109 NATO round

    My reply,also in this thread
M16 and variants use the .223 calibre rounds, same as the standard NATO Battle Rifle round the SS109, which is why a lot of forces changed to this smaller calibre.

The search function is your friend before shooting from the lip windows!

No, and it happens a fair bit as well (and usually in public and without anonymity for me), but to keep things from devolving into a rather nasty spat, we usually have to just refute what's said and ignore the rest as being inane silliness. Which isn't terribly satisfying, but if you leave it for a while, ceases to be quite so galling.

Windows 311 - did you actually read the thread before rushing in to correct it?

I reckon not because you managed not only to miss an already correct response to the mistake, but you managed to pin the mistake on the person who made the original correction. Next time you feel a need to wow us all with your encyclopedic knowledge make sure you have a clue what's actually been posted :)

Musashi - defamation it surely wasn't, but I reckon your status as a gun-uber-nerd has been safely restored.

    Is everyone happy now?
