There are such things as Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMUs) yes, however the IE 2900 uses a hydaulic clutch for its final drive. This won't stop them running through the interconnector-IE aren't as short-sighted as many people like to make out.

The interconnector tracks will not surface at Pearse to meet the existing infrastructure, it will be a transfer station. That's one of the main advantages of the interconnector-it bypasses the loop line and massively increases capacity in the system.

Snazzy Interconnector Map and Propaganda now at http://www.platform11.org/

print it out - leave it around your office - tell everybody the truth about the Airport Metro - Dublin already has a "Metro", it is called DART...

BELIEVE and WE CAN GET THIS DONE.

    cheers

Another difficulty with the airport metro project, and one I believe P11 should capitalise on to promote the Interconnector proposal, is that the government and the RPA have yet to even agree a route for the airport metro. Nothing *at all* has been finalised, beyond 'mabye it will go to here, via here, but we're not sure yet'.

The route of the Interconnector has been planned and decided on, everyone knows where it will go, how it will get there, and the work that will be required to construct it...whereas the metro proposal has er...none of these things!
