Read these over the last week:

'Singularity Sky' - Charles Stross (I liked the writing and the ideas are great but the plot is a little simple for my tastes)

'Natural History' - Justina Robson (Super ideas, well written)

Love Banks, but did anyone mention Ken Mcleod with his series of books including The Cassini Division and Stone Canal, all brilliant,
James Blish with Cities in Flight and Black Easter (not sci-fi but required reading children),
Another different direction is HP Lovecraft with from The Mountains Of Madness,
Also must mention Gun with Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem, he also wrote a great book called As She Climbed Across The Table, a man in love with a woman in love with a naked singularity, the ending certainly will twist your mind through several unlisted dimensions!
