Canon PowerShot A85 :: €259.99

Hi there,

This is the new Canon PowerShot A85 which is just out in the last week or two. It's an improved version of their A70 which was apparantly their best selling camera ever.

Argos sell this for €399.99 (I know they are never the best value)

Pixmania have it for just a little more, ordering from them would certainly be easier and maybe even cheaper in terms of shipping?

there is also this company http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/digital-camera-brands-Canon.htm which have it for £189 incl vat and delivery to Ireland. So that works out around 282 euro. Plus they have some freebies to go with it as well

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll have a look. I think the free postage on the "international cameras direct" offer is only in Britain though.


Edit: I was right:

"Deliveries outside UK: please phone or email for a quotation. Average delivery costs are £9 for small accessories and £35 for cameras!!!"

€50 to get a camera sent over from the Uk seems a wee bit pricey.

For some reason it tends to be more expensive to get something sent from Britain to here than from mainland Europe, I have no idea why.

Damn, thought it was free delivery to Ireland! Thanks for spotting that I was going to order through them and all! Still I've sent them an email to see how much it would cost to deliver a camera to Ireland

They do seem to be great cameras, was gonna get an a70 a while back but couldn't afford it... Read a ton of reviews on it and the all gave it great marks. They sold so well in the states cannon couldn't keep up with the demand. If i was goin for an intermediate cam this is deffo the one id go for, Its the amount of manual features the give it m vote...

It's an improved version of their A70

It seems to be an improved version of the A80 which was 4M.
The A75 would be the newer A70.Both are 3.2M.
I have the A60 ,brilliant camera.

Whats the movie mode like on these cameras. Any good?

On the A60 , A70 ,and A80 it is 320 by 240 res at 15fps with max of 3 min clip.
On a 128mb stick I can fit 6 mins of video with audio.
Its only fair to be honest.
I mostly use it to analyse my golf swing .
The A75 and A85 have 640x480 mode at 15fps but only a max of 30 sec clips.
I am getting a Mini Dv camcorder soon though

I have the A80, got it for at the time 269 Euro delivered to the house from www.7dayshop.com, found them excellent.
