I posted this on after hours a few days ago to no avail...

I'm on I-stream, on the dundrum exchange and have been unable to access ANY of the ebay websites, they just plain fail to load and according a few people this is something to do with eircom's proxies. If anyone else is on the same exchange, or others, are you having the same problem? Its nothing on MY end im sure of that, and so far its just ebay that i can find thats affected for me.

    TIA

The IP address for the ebays are as follows:
    .com 66.135.192.88
    .co.uk 66.135.208.41
    .de 66.135.208.85

What happens when you load the website...do you get a 404. or partial load etc. you might have an old browser or operating system...why dont you see if all the web page actually loads (right click/view code) and see if you get the data. if you do then its your browser...if you get now information see what happens when you type in trace route...you should see the request going out...if Eircom is stopping them then your hops will stop...(I xxx out the last IP)

Does that mean anything to you?

The page title loads, nothing else - just blank white page with the blue progress bar at about 90% at the bottom. Ive had no problems accessing it at all on the same setup for months, suddenly this week i cant access any of the ebay sites, and ive tried it on 3 machines with the same result

For some bizzare reason, since i done that trace route i can now access them......

Maybe Eircom was listening to your prayers...

(The traceroute timesout due to the hops taking time..you can increase this..but the point was that you got passed eircom into level3 so they are routing your request)

    Dont spend to much

I cant get on ebay either. After about 10mins the page will appear with no pictures loaded. I tried that tracing thing (don't have a clue what it means, I did it from run in the start menu) got time outs after 10. how do you stop the trace, just close the window??

Did the tracing thing again and let it close itself down (i think) ebay now works anyways.

The trace program just lists the servers the packets would go through on their way to the final destination. IP can packets can be routed so the trace helps to see what route they take. Its like driving a car to Cork from Dublin and seeing the towns on route...Naas, Kildare...Mitchelstown.

The trace should not 'fix' anything, its a diagnostic tool.

Very weird and I dont have an explanation, however the fact that you could see the page meant that your browser was finding the server so the Trace was not adding any value....however the e-bay pictures could be comming from a different server and you could have been getting time-outs...I know e-bay has had issues with hackers so that could be it....

hope this explains the fact that magic still exists

I have a mate at work who could not access ebay.co.uk for most of the week; he's also using "eircom."

I was able to access the site with no problems at all, using iolbb, so this would appear to be an ISP problem.

My mate did gain access tonight but he could not get onto the "buy and Sell" site.

are you using a firewall? some of them block access at times, if by mistake it detects an attack from the website

It only came up sometimes, after at least 10minutes. other times it was going for 30mins with nothing.
When it did load up it was another 10mins to do a search which ended up with unclickable products.
Works fine now. I also had probs with buyandsell recently.
