In the Times motoring section this week it shows spy shots of the new 3 series bmw and mentions that it will be competing with a heavily reworked A4 available towards the end of the year. However there isn't a whole lot about it on the web, this picture of a planned A4 coupe being the best I can find. Anyone know anything else about it?

EDIT: mentioned in this south african site too, no pictures though : clicky

Read the following a while back on auto-express's website ;) :

Now it's the A4's turn to get a grilling - it started with the A8, but Audi's new corporate look is filtering down the family tree to other models. The mag's exclusive picture reveals the facelifted A4, which is expected to go on sale in the UK early next year, ready to take on Mercedes' revised C-Class and the new BMW 3-Series.

The distinctive chrome four-sided grille appeared first on the luxury flagship A8 W12, but has also made an appearance on the all-new A6 - unveiled in last week's Auto Express - which will go on sale in June.

Along with the fresh face, Audi's designers are likely to take the opportunity to refresh the rear styling with revamped lights and a resculpted bumper. Otherwise, the A4's sharp design will be left untouched in both saloon and Avant form.

The interior is expected to be fitted with a range of new trims. Under the skin, engineers will be given the chance to upgrade the suspension settings to smooth out the A4's ride. However, the most significant work will go on under the bonnet. The A4 will inherit many new engines from the recently launched MkV VW Golf, including FSI petrol units and the acclaimed new 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The range-topping A4 oil-burner will get the 3.0-litre TDI used in the A8 and new A6, while performance car fans will be delighted to know a turbocharged V8 RS4 will join the range later. And even though the A3 is less than a year old, plans are already underway to add Audi's new grille to the hatchback. It will arrive in showrooms in 2006. Dan Strong
