    Slayer were excellent at Ozzfest. They were far better than they were at TTP. They were the best band at Ozzfest by far too.

    Slayer's performance at Ozzfest put me off them for ages, it was over a year before I could bear putting on one of their cd's, they were terrible. I'd never pay to see them again after seeing them there. Tool were far better.

    I see your point Mat (if I may address you as such?) - the "kids" got onto the Slipknot wagon cause they're the most obviously metal "looking" act around in time to catch a hold of the new opportunities for metal (brought on by Rage Against The Machine, Korn and to a certain extend Cypress Hill) and obvious poster-boys for the whole thing.

    My particular problem with them is that they had the potential to be one of the greatest bands ever - I honestly believe that - if they only had a proper metal singer and got rid of those 2 useless fuckwits that hit the barrels or whatever. Their first album is still something I listen to quite often, but my tastes have moved onto much heavier things these days.

    well, i think iowa is a much heavier album, and they don't just 'hit the barrels', they're proper percussionists, and it adds to their heaviness even more, (joey's drums are ****in heavy enough tho)

    crimsonfire - sounds like slayer are the **** in person, goin by what slayer9603 said, at least when i asked corey a yr ago if they were comin here, he was genuinly interested in what i was askin and said they'd try to come over soon

    TBH (and I have my flame retardant suit on so feel free!) I think slipknot Could and most times would out do SLayer /ducks and dives

    Now my reasoning behind this.

    Slipknot were immensly experimental with mate.feed.kill repeat and some songs are very good. Then with Slipknot(ST) They proved they could make GREAT records and that they were an immense metal force. With IOWA They proved they were not one hit wonders and that not only that but they could also change there sound, with normal errie and melodic songs on IOWA.

    Finally , Vol3 The subliminal verses, Well, need I say anything! This album is not the heaviest by FAR, but musically it could be one of the best. This album has some GREAT songs, and slipknot have completly redefined themselves and done it well. Can you remember the last band to do this? (metallica? HA!, Korn? HA)

    Now onto Slayer, they have been singlehandedly responsable for the metal revolution, but are they REALLY that good? Personally I can listen to maybe 7-10 songs and think WOW they are great, for example Raining blood,Bloodline,Seasons in the abyss. After that however they become much of the same and the riffs are not to crisp and solos (despite being fast) are just a slur and make no musical sense.

    I do not doubt that Slayer have been all important for the standing ground for slipknot but I do believe that slipknot are better artists.

    It was after all , both of Slipknot`s albums that made Slayer go back to studio to try and make another good album.

    Also, why must slipknot fans be the "kids", why must we be the ones following an image? Do slayer fans not realise that they have stood by one single band for 20 years and any other band that comes out they say "they suck compared to Slayer, anyone who likes them dont know metal music". Do slayer fans not realise that THEY are the ones following an image?

    I realise the Flames are going to fly and I accept that, but I feel I have argueed my point well so flame-on!!

    P.S I dont HATE SLayer or anything, like I said I enjoy some of there music and the rest I can easily listen to, I think they have made HUGE breakthroughs but that is it, they paved the way for the better bands.

    PPS. Hopefully there will be a slipknot/Slayer concert here in Ireland, maybe in the village :D. I read in a newspaper article with jim root (slipknot guitarist, that they would be coming back to europe and ireland in september-end of year, obviously talking about this tour, so I would not get your hopes down yet, but at the same time it is looking more more and unlikely)

    Well, due to the JÄGERMEISTER MUSIC TOUR who they're tourig with Killswitch Engage & Mastodon, they won't be over before December 17th, but after then, who knows?

    =====

    As for Slipknot; they experiment. And some like that. The 1st album was alright, but they only used 2 or 3 strings for every song, so they sounded a bit cr4p. Duality sounds nice, and hopefully it isn't the only one of that album. As for the little kids liking Slipknot, its mainly to do with them not having a "family friendly" image (truth or taser, anyone?), thus the little kids love them. If Slipknot had a nicer image, the kids wouldn't like them, but hey, its all image, ain't it?

    =====

    As for Slayer; saw them once or twice. They are f00kin excellent!!! You can hear the lyrics, and they make sense :cool: so thats why so many like them!
