Well, the assignment thing wont be compulsory (I hope). Noone will get kicked out or anything if you don't produce pictures.

Oh, and just in case you think I'm trying to stick my foot in, I defintaly don't want to be mod.

I just suggested the 'assigments' thing as it seems to work well over on fredmiranda.com, and is a good way of getting your creativity going if you're stuck for ideas. It's also interesting to see how different people interpret the same theme. Anyhow, they're always really general themes that could be interpreted any old way - fr'instance the current one is 'long exposures' - can't really get more all inclusive than that.

Assignment is probably the wrong word. Jeez, I certainly wouldn't participate if it was compulsory.

no one said compulsory or nothing... and themes be better off being monthly or bi-weekly

If people are interested then I would create a forum on an external board (open to suggesions with regards to the host and forum name). PM me if interested, want to participate or co-mod. Otherwise just ignore this post.

i'll be opening a forum on my site (www.aaaphotos.org) in the next few weeks which will be for general photography chat/advice, help etc

All this is a good idea. Possible a sub-forum is a goer, but since this is such a small board, no need splitting it up, I think.

I'd really love it if people would talk about creativity and, well, you know, art photography, rather than what lens or digicam they use. Most forums are taken up with this. Nothing wrong with asking how shots were achieved, but usually they descend into conversations about technology.

One example I've come across is www.ozoneasylum.com. A good photoforum that has a good mix of talented amateurs, untalented professionals and eejits is www.iphotoforum.com.

Undoubtedly digital photographers will post more to this potential forum, since us film rejects are often low on time and money! Plus, a board and a monitor are never a perfect substitute for animated group discussion and the printed photograph. Meetings should be arranged if you plan to take this further.

    Sounds interesting though.

im glad dada said that about techy stuff, requests for advice on what digi camera to buy will clog up any new forum... maybe we could update the resource sticky... its like the film review forum on the film board it's not elitist to kick stuff back to the main film board if it doesn't fit there...

im also getting a bit confused now as to why a sub-forum shouldn't be set up, why it would need to be an externally group one... hosted on this site, or why it should be hosted anywhere else...

Just one question: Is a new forum being proposed to make it more specific to Irish folk (or Boards contributors, should I say) ?

From reading the latest posts, it sounds like you're attempting to reinvent a wheel which is already out on the Net anyway, many times. www.photocritique.net is one pic-posting forum that comes to mind.

If it IS being proposed like this to keep the community small and easier to see local talent, then sure, it's a good idea. Otherwise, just post to an existing dedicated forum elsewhere.

Sorry if I'm asking about what has already been said, just trying to understand the reasons for this. I'd be a willing participant.

    B.

i think it's a great idea. I am really interested in improving my photography but only have a basic enough (i.e. non SLR) digicam, i can get good pictures from it sometimes though. but like dada said, more general advice on new perspectives and ideas rather than specific camera based discussion would be fantastic. id feel a bit intimidated going along to camera clubs and whatever because i don't have advanced equipment but yet i *really* love taking photos.

I agree, Arts/Anim/Photography has turned into "What Camera"

Delighted to see a great interest in the more creative side of photography. I'd certainly be interested in a more creative ideas/less trainspoting type of camera club!
Also I'd lobe some feedback on some pictures I'm working on at:

so is there gonna be a weekly based comp with pictures taken for a theme?

i think this would go a long way to bring back photographers to the boards and have more intrest in taking part

anything else we can do to, and again weekly is too rapid...

still need to filter all those shopping advice posts? isn't there a digital media .tv/hifi/phot/video, technofile board?
