Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

what about Lisa?

She is intelligent, likes classical music, reads books and is sensitive - I rest my case!

Surely it has to be someone old enough to actually get married? :)

didn't realise you needed to get married to be gay. Or that you got the keys of the fairy palace at a certain age

Well, seeing as the episode revolves around gay marraiges being legalised and a character getting married to another bloke, I think you can safely dismount that PC high-horse you're on. :)

My guess is he's basing it on the original article from the first post on the thread.
Producer Al Jean says: "We have a show where, to raise money, Springfield legalises gay marriage. Homer becomes a minister by going on the internet and filling out a form. A longtime character comes out of the closet, but I'm not saying who."

Based on that its a case of 2+2 = nearly 4.

:D

I think they retired his character when Phil Hartman died, so I doubt it will be him.

Even if he was still in the series he preferred intimacy with fish over intimacy with humans

So?
Could still be gay, but years in denial.
There again, he cheated on Mandula with the squishy lady, so maybe not.
The press release was to get people talking about the simpsons again - "oh the shock! a character comes out!"
Yeah true.
Even still, I think it'd be a bit of an anti-climax if it was someone so minor.

What about mister burns then... he marries smithers, hah :p

There's a pic of pretty much all of the main characters. It has to be Flanders or Skinner

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

You're all wrong, it's going to be Ralph Wiggum!

• Closed Accounts Posts: 1,219 ✭✭✭plastic membrane

Well, seeing as how since the show went down the swanny, hints have been dropped on the sexual proclivities of EVERY character, in a really desperate attempt at trying to be funny, it could be anyone. I don't care to be honest, ive stopped watching new Simpsons, and ive given up hope that it will be retired with the dignity the first seven series deserved. Watch Family Guy instead, at least thats in its prime.

My money's on Moe.

It's Patty. She falls in love with her tennis coach.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Well its gotta be Patty or Selma... remember the episode with the gay pride festival where one of them was in the closet (or toilet or something, on one of the floats) singing "we're gay bla.. blah... but don't tell mom or dad!"

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

It's Barney, its gotta be Barney! He's the most unlikely person that it could be, so they'll pick him

• Closed Accounts Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭orangerooster

Its definitely going to be patty or selma and I know I wont give a crap as the Simpsons puts its own "hilarious" bent on yet another fashionable political issue in America.Sure to be more trash from the hacks doing the writing on the Simpsons in any case.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭emptyspoon

What about Prof. Frink?

Hmmmm, all those inventions...maybe they're compensating for something?

• Closed Accounts Posts: 9 wolfhound

it wont be smithers he 2 obvious.moe is likely he is so homophobic and so unlikely that they will surely pick him.

...yet another fashionable political issue in America...

Since when is being gay a fashionable political issue? Or am I missing something?

• Closed Accounts Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭orangerooster

Not being gay, the legalisation of gay marriage, thats what the episode is actually about and thats what the writers are writing it for its currently the burning issue in American politics-had you read back through the thread instead of climbing up on that high horse you would know this.Theres no need to get defensive about it for no reason whatsoever.

Hans mole man
The Sea Captain
Bumble bee man
lunch lady dorris
Dr Hibbert
Reverent love joy snake
Itchy or Scratchy....

Lunchlady Doris? Does she still appear? Thought she was retired years ago when Doris Grau died, but maybe they just got an impersonator?

I'd love for the character to be Ned Flanders. Damn sexy Flanders!

The lazy cheapskates didnt even bother getting someone who sounds remotely like any of the actors who left the show or died and its just another reason while the Simpsons is a big load.

i'd nearly go with barney!!! when is the episode been aired any way?

so he turns gay and has a new gay voice, perfect.

The Sea Captain.

Remember when someone donated a load of porn to him and he was like "Yarrr, that should prevent my men from resorting to homosexuality....for about 5 mintes". One em said "Look who's talking", and he looked embarrasssed and just said "Yarrrrrrr"

Failing that I think McBain or Barney.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

i'll wildly guess moe, but have to agree with "who cares"
i'm glad i'm not the only one that sees through this pathetic gimmick
i don't like the new ones and i don't have satellite, the real new ones are probably even worse

fortunately network 2 have been showing old (good) episodes, they are still funny
the show should've ended about 5 years ago

i also think will and grace is about the lowest form of sitcom i've ever seen, and the majority of sitcoms are extremely weak

phil hartman was excellent, hutz and mcclure were very funny

I think it'll be either Barney or Moe. Reason being, for Homer to do the marriage it would most likely be a close friend of his getting married and they are much bigger characters than any of his other friends.

If not Barney or Moe, then probably the guy from the comic store due to his willingness to cross the "final frontier" in the Mr. X episode.

Thought I'd make a poll out of it. Which character will come out of the closet?
Paddy Power are offering bets on it.
Here are the odds
Smithers 5-2
Patty 7-2
Selma 7-2
Kent Brockman 7-1
Lenny 10-1
Carl 10-1
Moe 10-1
Comic Book Guy 12-1
Principal Skinner 12-1
Old Sea Captain 12-1
Otto 14-1
Dr Hibbert 14-1
Barney 16-1
Fat Tony 16-1
Ned Flanders 20-1
Groundskeeper Willy 20-1
Krusty 20-1
Professor Fink 20-1
Reverend Lovejoy 20-1
Apu 25-1
Mr Burns 33-1
Chief Wiggum 33-1
Mayor Quimby 40-1
Bumblebee Man 66-1
Homer 66-1

I really do think it'll be revealed that either/both patty or Selma will be either transvestites or born as men, with female organs! And I'd probably say one of them will hook up with smithers!

potential spoiler:
In an episode (I can't remember which one) began with a gay pride parade going past the simpson's house. in a float of the parade, there's a salute to people staying in the closet, with either patty or selma with smithers in the closet! DEAD GIVEAWAY!
i haven't been watchin simps lately. what is the poll about? what do you mean come out of the closet?

im sorry....smithers is in the closet? so the malibu stacy collection and the frequent references to his love for mr burns arent enough for you guys? Brockman would be class!

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,825 ✭✭✭Healio

I remain adamant it will be Mayor Quimby who is gay.
