Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Hoops in new move on €10m stadium

The Hoops in new move on €10m stadium

SHAMROCK Rovers is locked in advanced talks with a privately-owned financial company in a bid to kick-start its long-stalled ambition to build a €10m stadium in Tallaght.

The League of Ireland football club has already invested €4.2m in constructing a half-built stadium that has not seen any additional construction in two years.

It is still €6m short of what it needs to complete the stadium and ancillary facilities such as a car park, bar and dining areas.

Who exactly Rovers is in talks with is not known and the club itself was unavailable to comment yesterday. However, it is known that Rovers is currently thrashing out a contract which will allow them eventually buy back over time the completed stadium from their new financial partner.

The club's site is 8.5 acres in size and it is strategically located opposite the Square shopping centre in Tallaght.

Just 60pc of the site is covered by Rovers' existing development plans, which makes the facility very attractive for further development, particularly with a major expansion of the Square led by Noel Smyth and Quinlan Private on the cards.

Former retailer-turned-fitness entrepreneur Ben Dunne has previously said he would be interested in building a €2m, 30,000 sq ft, gym and leisure facility on the site.

However, he has not been in talks with Rovers in the last year, as he cannot apply for planning permission to build his gym until the construction of the stadium is completed.

Mr Dunne could yet emerge as an investor in the Tallaght site, but he is now likely to need to meet the approval of not only the club but also of its new financial partner.

Shamrock Rovers is due to hold its agm on September 20, when it is thought likely it will reveal further details to its long-waiting fans of its negotiations to get its stadium back on the road.

It is also likely to update members on the progress of its so-called 400 Club, which is seeking to induce members to agree to contribute €40 a month for three years to help fund the club.

Hopefully we will see a lot more investment in EL clubs over the next couple of seasons. Shels have upped the expectation level and will hopefully make a mark in uefa cup, which can only be good for again raising the level.

I heard Shels had plans to move from Tolka park to a new green field site. they reckoned that they would get a lot from the sale because its worth a lot for housing. It would be a good idea to move away from the river : P.

Good news for the hoops, I hope it goes ahead. The standard of the E.L looks to be on the up.

Do you have a link for that story?

    Please.

Fair play to the Shams if they can get the ground built, at the moment they are in a huge mess with having to find a place to play every season.

In order to devlop the north stand in tolka they will have to buy the houses to right of the existing stand, the owners could ask for anything they wanted. Moving to a green field is the best thing they could do.

I have a plot of land in meath big enough for a 25,000 seater stadium, they can have it for 10 million.

    25,000 seater stadium,
    ....LOL

Ah the Rovers saga continues ,sad that they still in a state (snigger snigger) Better solution would be to let them have Tolka Park ,cracking atmosphere out there when Rovers have that main stand and away fans on other side.
A lot of rovers fans i know have those 5 year season tickets they heard nowt about this deal at the last GM they had.

I live just a 15 minute walk from that Concrete lump that has been lying idle for the past 2 years. We really need this ground. We have been running on a loss for so long. Im suprised we`ve kept the current sqaud together, when it is built, it will be a fortress and we will re-establish ourselves as the force we once were.

Shels should move out to Dublin North East...I have been saying this for years, there is a huge population in Dublin North East and they have never had a EPL team to support.

I live minutes away from the stadum and I hope to god they get their act together and finally finish it. When they first began building the stadium there was a huge amount of goodwill from the people of Tallaght around the project, now everyone I know is embarrassed and sick looking at that eyesore of a derilict half finished stadium. I hope to God they get their act together but i'm not holding my breath.

It was meant to be only 6K all seated but that was to be in stages as per planning app , but if it is finsihed soon they will have one stand with about 2K seats and then the rest whenever.
