Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Linux - Wireless connection selection

    Hi Guys,

Myself and a neighbour want to share his broadband connection,
between us (and split the cost of broadband)
The problem is, there is another Wireless network closer to me than his,
and I'm having difficulty selecting his over the stronger/closer one.
The stronger one is DHCP enabled so I get assigned an IP as soon as I boot.
I can see his AP with monitoring tools, and the signal is sufficiently strong.
I try to select his AP with the following:

    iwconfig eth0 essid <his_ap>
and I set my IP, gateway, broadcast..etc to valid ones,
but I still don't seem to be able to associate with his AP.

    Anyone have any ideas ?

    TIA,
    Ray.

Along with setting the essid, use the ap parameter to specify the MAC address of your friend's AP:

    iwconfig eth0 ap 1A:2B:3C:4D:5E:6F

Also, associate with the stronger network, make a note of the channel it's using, and set your friend's ap and your NIC to a different channel.
