Goldie Lookin’ Chain Banned From TOTP

    - GLC Live at The Village Next Tuesday, August 31st ‘04

Whether the intoxicated Newportian cry of “Guns don’t kill people, rrrrrappers do” could incite social downfall is debatable. However, just to be on the safe side the BBC has banned Goldie Lookin’ Chain from performing on Top Of The Pops despite them having a Top 3 hit.

'Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do' went into the UK Top 40 this week at number 3 which, in normal circumstances, would assure the group of primetime TOTP airtime. However, it’s not the bling, the tracksuits or even the potty mouths that have got the producers worried. It’s the song’s references to firearms.

The programme says it has been offered a fully live version of the track, but its hands are tied by broadcasting rules.

Other controversial performers like Eminem and Eamon, they add, had offered alternative edits to the show.

As consolation however, the Chain will be appearing on the show tomorrow, Friday (August 27) by way of a pre-recorded interview. Which sounds like it could be an altogether more dangerous prospect.

Goldie Lookin’ Chain are set to open the proceedings on the main stage at this weekend’s Reading and Leeds festivals.

They then head for Belfast on Monday for an appearance at the ViTal Festival, followed by an keenly-anticipated headline show at The Village in Dublin on Tuesday night.

Tickets for Goldie Lookin’ Chain at The Village are €17.50 (inc. booking fee) and are on sale from Road, Soundcellar, Ticketmaster, The Wav Ticketbox at Whelans and usual outlets.
