Anyone ever priced sofa's carpets etc from north compared to down here ?
I'd imagine the exchange rate and delivery would cancel out much of the savings but some of the prices I've been quoted down here are just plain ridiculous (2K for a 2 seater sofa and 2 armchairs...not leather or anything).

    Cheers

Galway shops are cheap enough, have you had a look at http://www.instore.ie/web/ at all.

Nearest IKEA near Liverpool, a LWB Tranny van for 2 days is about €150 hire.

Carpets include laying so shop local and I recommend you do the same for White Goods if they are new as they WILL fix a breakdown

Buyandsell is great, 1 weekend in Dublin should do it .

Cheers for that Muck, Liverpool and IKEA sounds like a good idea (Could even try to do it on a match weekend so I could slip off to a game while the missus has a mooch round IKEA).
Any idea where I'd pick up a transit van ? Looked a few of the car rental sites but they all seem to do cars only.

Theres a few specialist companies, I can't think of the names myself but you often see them around town, I think Hertz do vans. Just remember that you need somthing extra on your licence to drive a van.

But I have heard of alot of people going to ikea and filling the van.

normal licence will do even for a big van , the extra bit is if u pull a trailer.

IKEA in Glasgow deliver to the South a couple of times a week, so you don't even need to get off your ar5e and hire a van to drive over there. Just phone in your order. Delivery prices from £30 - scroll down near the bottom of this page:

If you're looking for cheap appliances pop out to Baize House in Swords or Glasnevin(assuming you're in the Dublin area).
They do shop-soiled appliances. Mostly it's just a scratch on it or something so they're much cheaper but you get the same product and you also get the full warranty.

Oh look, they do furniture too.

For van-hire try http://www.jpmg.ie/truckvanrentalhome.htm which is a division of Avis. You're license is good up to a limit of 3,500kg so you can get a transit, Merc Sprinter or a Canter on a standard license.

    When they say
Irish delivery prices start at £30, see in store for more details
Do they definitely mean the Republic, or do they mean NI, as IKEA do not have a store in NI, yet...

Yes, as I said they deliver to the South - I didn't make it up for the laugh. You can phone them up to place an order, or get a cheap Ryanair flight to Prestwick, do your shopping and have it delivered a week later.

flatpack.ie offer a similar service, but why deal with the monkey when you can deal with the organ-grinder?

    I assumed you
didn't make it up for the laugh
and their website did not specify ROI, I just wanted clarification, there is a lot of misinformation going out on these boards, no need to be a smart ass about it....

I'm not being a smart ass about it. I had already stated what the situation was with regard to deliveries to the South before you joined in. If you didn't believe what I had written, you could have just picked up the phone and called them to verify that they do indeed deliver here.

No need to be a little bitch about it....

yeah i seen that on their website alright... I swear my auntie told me that she got stuff in an Ikea store and she lives in coleraine... She might have got it delivered from the uk but the way she was talking it was like she was in the store... i dunno...

To be honest furniture can be got by shopping around or even down the country furniture is a lot more keenly priced.
The hassle of hiring a van or been laughed at by someone at the IKEA call centre is too much to bear!!

Just to clarify ! A Long wheelbase Transit will take about 8-10 IKEA Trolleys at least which would otherwise cost £600 or so to deliver from Glasgow . Thats €900 euros or so, phew.

The ferry will cost ya €99 and the Diesel about €20 and the van maybe €200 includig insurance.

Where are you getting a ferry for €99? Belfast to Stranraer return with a car and two people cost me £180 two weeks ago with Stena. And that was sailing at the crack of dawn...

I moved into a new house last October in Navan, and when we were looking at Furniture in Dublin we could not believe the prices, glad we didn't buy in Dublin though as in Navan their is a huge amount of furniture shops when you go looking around the prices are excellent, seemingly its the furniture capitol of Ireland.

Anyway we saved a lot by buying most of our furniture in Navan some of the things we even saw in shops in Dublin for Double the price.

Recently we also bought a new bed so we really wanted top of the range, the guy a shop in Navan told us we would not get it cheaper anywhere else, we got a Super King Size Bed which is 6' by 6'8" with drawers in the base a pocket sprung mattress and layers of latex and other comfy material it was dear at €1600 but nowhere near what the same size bed would cost in the sleep center in blanch its a Sealy bed too which is pretty good.

Anyway don't go of to ikea till you check down the country as such Navan has lots of good furniture shops around the town with decent prices, apart from that Argos is great for small bits and pieces you may require.

You should check out Land of Leather up north (they advertise in newspapers in the Republic and prices are in €)

They usually have deals, like armchair free when you buy 2 sofas (€1800). That's leather remember..and recliners...

You should take a drive up to Belfast..with the new roads it's well under 2 hours. Try Boucher Road, Exit 1 off the M1/N1. You'll find DFS among others, but i don't know how the prices stack up....

    Happy Shopping

Flatpack Ireland is a company that specialises in delivering Ikea goods to the Republic so you can go over, pick out your goods and they'll take it from there. Not sure of their cost mind you, but Ikea is so cheap that I'm sure overall it'd be worth it!
