I just upgraded my SKY+ HDD today from the standard 40GB drive to 120GB. Works a treat. Now I can record 60 hours.

Here's a simple guide, and here's the hard drive I bought:

    Maxtor 120GB (MX6Y120P0)

I decided that since there is already a Maxtor drive inside the box that keeping it a Maxtor would be handiest. It's also easier for moving the thermal pads back onto the 4 main HDD chips - they are pretty much in the same places.

Nice one. My box will be out of warranty in 4 months. I will upgrade it then. Has anyone heard of any issues with doing this upgrade?

No issues that I'm aware of. I've read through 45 pages of posts on Digital Spy about it. I spent plenty of time pondering about it. The posts about it on Digital Spy date back to 2002 when SKY+ first came out, and covers all the issues, etc. This seems to be THE best way to do it and presents no problems. Mine has been working fine all day now - nice and quiet and no hotter than usual.

Apparently (with the new software upgrade recently downloaded on SKY+), they can now take 250GB drives.
