    Hi People,

Just a quick question, is anyone aware of any good VoIP providers here in Ireland. I've had it with €rrcon and am now considering getting rid of their thelephone service and broadband service, rigging up another one (installation being done next week). Only thing now is to find a VoIP provider that I can check out.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Asgaroth

I'm interested too in VoIP Providers in Ireland. I currently use a services through www.vip.com, where I have signed up online, and use my PC to make VoIP Calls. It's very good.

There are plans to have an Irish service too, as far as I hear...

    Will keep you posted!

Any particular reason you need Irish?
    If not Skype are good.

I'm guessing he means somebody who can hook up his normal phones to?

    I'm looking at this too.

I have signed up for http://www.voipfone.co.uk who give you a UK 0870 number. They seem to be pretty good. Also sometimes I'd prefer to sppear to be calling from a UK number, so it suits me. They say they will offer Irish numbers later this month.

These guys say they will offer a service soon http://www.voipirl.ie/dsloffering.php

As they have a .ie domain name I guess they're going to offer Irish numbers.

I am going to buy an IP phone (€100) because it won't be a real phone if it relies on my PC's sound card/microphone. I just bought a router so that I won't need to leave my PC on to share the internet connection.

VoIP services don't offer emergency service (999/112) numbers so you should probably have a mobile as a backup. Also they don't work in a power cut.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the responses. Just for info, I called up the VoIP Ireland guys (http://www.voipirl.ie) and it looks like they are almost on their way to having a full "€ircom replacer kit". The only problem at the moment is that comReg have not allocated blocks of "telephone" numbers to them, so we can make calls to any and all te4lephone numbers, however. no-one can call you on it at the moment. For €150 you get their "gateway" which allows you to use your existing phone, i guess its just an analog to digital converter really. There is no monthly rental charges, the only thing they charge for is the call, and the original kit. There cost savings is phenomenal.

I think I will go with them, and eventually be rid of eircom. I guess its only a matter of weeks/months before ComReg come up with a numbering scheme that will allow incoming calls.

PS: Any other people out there who have an NTL/Errcon/BT etc etc broadband connection with a VoIP implementation to replace €rrcon? And I'm not talking about skype. I would be really interrested in hearing some of the "success" stories out there. Or some of the implementation strategies in place, ie: linux gateways to internet, with pc's and telephones hangin off the hubs etc etc. Any firewall configuration needing to be done etc etc...

    Cheers,
    Asgaroth

Simple suggestion but a really good suggestion at that.

That UK lot sound very good. I'm interested in the business package and have requested more info from them, though if VoIP IRL can get incoming numbers soon they could have a customer.

Otherwise there's this from EsatBT though I'm not sure if it's available yet over here and it's not on their website..

They also have this on their website for business, but two of their guys I was talking to the other day didn't know about it, am inquiring further.
