I must say, I found Steal This Album to be far inferior to Toxicity.

I'm usually a bit of a dance-head but A Grand Don't Come For Free ("The Streets") was exceptionally good stuff, took me a week to figure out that the album was a story!! Good stuff tho

I just bought The Shins - Chutes too Narrow the other day, and I just need to add it to my list of favourite albums ever. They're much with the kick ass! And Mass Romantic by The New Pornographers isn't half-bad either.

I found while there were some individual good songs (eg Roulette, Mr Jack), I like most of Toxicity's songs whereas I find some of the ones on Steal This Album simply boring.
But all a matter of personal opinion, really.

    U2: Joshua Tree
The Killers: Hot Fuss (I know its flavour of the month) ;)
    Damien Rice: O

you really should, you'll love it.
theres an acoustic versh of volcano, another he recorded in his room I think and different versions of delicate, the professor, etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

Do you not think thats a bad sign that instead of releasing a new album he just decides to release a b-sides with "rough" mixes of his songs. Now i have nothing against Mr. Rice i quite like some of his stuff but a b-sides after one album!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

nah, hes bringing out a new album next year or so I'm told.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

That doesn't really mean anything just thing of a mister Rose for a second

The b-sides thing is a result of O only being released recently in the US so they have to space a new album out etc. and so the b-sides album comes in handy to keep the fans hungry for more.

Btw if any of you turn this thread into a "god i love glen hansard etc. etc." thread (you people know who you are) you'll be banned.

He's a bit big-headed if you ask me. I liked all of System's albums but my favourite has to be SOAD itself. Pure class heaviness. As regards a list:
    Bad Religion-Process of Belief
    RATM-RATM
    Slayer-Reign in Blood
    Opeth-Blackwater Park
    Tool-Lateralus
    SOAD-SOAD
    Placebo-Placebo
    Placebo-Sleeping With Ghosts
    BellX1-Music In Mouth
    Pantera-Vulgar Display of Power
    Distillers-Coral Fang

I could go on, but I have boards to troll. :p

Cannonball was played on an episode of the OC(as were the Thrills-so much for the city),one of the biggest programs in America at the moment
a girl on my camogie team's 'clame to fame' is that she knew and was in the same school as Damien Rice's ex-girlfriend

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

thats about as weak a connection as me to Neil Jordan. He lives on the same road as my uncle you cant really use that as some sort of connection

well, we all know the loreto foxrock girl and damien rice story, right? cuz if you dont, you cannot call yourself a frames fan. or a damo fan.

"What's going on" by Marvin Gaye, "Smile" by Brian Wilson or "The Stone Roses" by the Stone Roses. Artistically perfect.

Anyone who includes the likes of Metallica, HIM, Pantera or any of that degenerate music is too young to understand that they are unimaginative and produce noise. You'll grow out of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Bit opinionated isn't that. And ****NEVER**** put HIM and Pantera in the same context. And I have no intention of "growing out of" the music I love. What are any band, the Stone Roses, Brian Wilson and Marvin Gaye included, doing but making noise? The fact that the noise they make appeals to people is just additional to the fact that it's noise. I personally love loud, heavy, aggressive noise. The fact that you like more mellow noise gives you no right to criticise anyone else's noise. Besides, there's more skill, instrumentally and in terms of imagination, in the average metal album than there is in the entire career of the average indie/alternative artist.

Oh, and another thing, when it comes to threads, leave the dead buried! I haven't seen this thread in months. It should have stayed that way!

    You'll grow out of it.
Who knows, you may grow out of your intolerant, self centred world view and realise that just because you don't like something doesn't mean nobody else likes it. Of course, that's usually something that happens at a fairly young age, so you've got a lot of catching up to do.
