Actually TJ, what your doing is presenting points, then ignoring the points other people are making if they conflict with your point. For instance, I pointed out Nothing Else Matters for its music because you were bitching about metal being all noise. You then proceeded to ignore that fact utterly, because that suited you. Quite frankly sir, you argue like the roman catholic church

You owe me one new sarcasm detector

Anyways, back to the topic... best album ever, in my opinion:

Counting Crows - August And Everything After

    yawn
fair enough you made your points, doesn't mean you have the right to say anyone elses taste in music is bad,

I have the right all right. It's called free speech love ; but do listen to Axel Foley by Harrold Faltermayer.

Thanks for proving my point there

I have the right to call you an asshole, but there's certain rules on boards, and I'd rather not get banned.

Actually "love", as you are so fond of saying, you do not have any rights. Nor do you have free speech.

You've only whatever amount of speech that myself and crash_000 allow you so erm... How do I put this clearly? Erm.... Shut the fsck up. (Not a typo for the non nerds in the audience - not that there usually are any.)

Any more of this bull outta you and say bye bye. On that note I have exams in two weeks. Anyone who gets banned will be banned until long after them. (Unless crash_000 is feeling lenient (i.e. snowballs chance in hell).)
CTYI is exactly as I remember it (99-02), full of metal clowns like yourselves. As far as I remember a lot of "metal" people there didn't shower or get haircuts & they wore black clothes with loads of silly badges all over them. Still the same? Only reason I went was for pretty girls, can't believe it was worth it though after this fiasco!

With that attitude I'm quite surprised you were ever at CTYI. You've some cheek. CTYI taught most of us how to accept people as they are. Comments like "metal clowns" will see you gone for good and I don't think (m)any will be sorry to see the back of you. That really just sickens me to see it. Don't let me see it again, EVER.
I have the right to call you an asshole, but there's certain rules on boards, and I'd rather not get banned.

I'd encourage you, honest I would, but then this'll turn into flame fest.

That's enough of that. Back on topic EVERYONE and keep it clean, civil and for the love of all that's good and pure at least have the decency to accept other peoples points of view.

Every off-topic post I see gets banned (as per above for unbanning etc). I don't care who you are.

Oh and don't make me close this thread. It's annoying enough as it is but just get on with it.

    my favourites from last year

    The Killers - Hot Fuss
    Snow Patrol - Final Straw
    Green Day - American Idiot

    more when I think

I maintain my stance on 'Electric Laydyland' By Jimi Hendrix that I've had since I first heard it. Never was there a better album made, and never will there be. What a way to be introduced to the electric guitar.

    Three great choices there!

I dunno, at risk of going off topic, placing american idiot ahead of such classic green day as dookie or nimrod is a bit disgraceful. It's a political album, and green day are not a political band.

Though this might be me type-casting, or a bit of St. Anger syndrome*. I'll still take their earlier music over the new stuff anyday

*A figure of speech originally coined by Raphael at 01:00 on the 3/01/05, St. Anger syndrome refers to a band who have been around for a long time releasing an album that, although reasonable, falls horribly short of their earlier material, leaving said album with a bad name

Nice. Very nice. Might use that one.

no, I agree with you, those were my favourite albums of the past year, but american idiot is definitely not near as good as either nimrod or dookie. They'd be on my overall favourites list.

Not sure about the last year, but recent albums would be...

    Air - Talkie Walkie
    Damien Rice - O
    Doves - The Last Broadcast
Kings of Leon - Youth & Young Manhood
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
The Red Hot Cilli Peppers - By the Way
The Thrills - So Much for the City
    Turin Breaks - Ether Song
    The White Stripes - Elephant
Various - Kill Bill Vol.1 Soundtrack

In alphabetical order according to band names.
    (I've gotta get out more)

    interpol!!!!!!!!!! - antics
    franz ferdinand - franz ferdinand
sons and daughters - love the cup
all 3 singels bloc party released
    the libertines - the libertines
    le tigre - this island
    feist - let it die

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Hmmm... right, not in a heavy mood at the moment so some of the best for me are as follows:

    BellX1-Music In Mouth
    Radiohead-The Bends
    Radiohead-OK Computer
Jimi Hendrix- Electric Ladyland (So right Colm)
    Bad Religion-Process of Belief
    Damien Rice-O
Dead Kennedies-Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables (Hardly light but then again it's not Slayer)
On that note, Slayer-Reign in Blood, just to piss off TJ if he's still hanging around. :p

I have to say, the only song that really struck me off American Idiot was Holiday. Everything else just pales, especially compared to the earlier stuff. Holiday's just got a certain comparable energy.

Look I just have to put it down, even though most of you don't like this sh*t:

Annual '05!!: mostly unoriginal, but some rare gems hidden in there. e.g. Commander Tom - Attention ; Public Domain - Operation Blade....

plus Gigi d'Agostino - La Jourtomour. which was widely believed to be unavailable in Ireland, however a specialised dance store in Waterford imported a bust of copies from Germany (I think)....

Neither of these would be candidates for the best album ever.....but they're definately worth a listen!

    2004 best albums -

    Smile - Brian Wilson
Patrick Morrisey - You are the Quarry
Beastie Boys - To the 5 Boroughs

I keep getting ban threats. Banned from what?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

    Um. The board.

Gig D'agostini...jono, ever heard his song "the riddle"? Tis rather good.

(I like almost any music with decent lyrics)

It's really all a personal thing.

I agree, pending what we / you like. Too many people out there listening to so much, one would get lost.
I could start, and get a discussion going. Which I may do.
    Best album....

    Slayer – Reign In Blood
No but seriously, Tool – Aenima
    Tool – Undertow

But these are there albums, Lateralus is still pending to be a good album, which was six years waiting. Yup, am a big fan since ’91. It is a good album, but them pesky kids now a days don’t like it cause it doesn’t sound like Nu-Metal / rap

Or how about Fugazi – Margin Walker?
    :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I like Lateralus best I think. It's just a really interesting, complex album. If you want some freaky trivia on it trawl through the archives of the Rock/Metal board about six months back. The others are still great albums though. Tool would probably be called nu-metal generally. I have nothing against that genre but the ratio of crap to good within it is far higher than most genres. Tool however, really are a different facet of nu-metal. They're far more artistic, intellectual and complex than most of the artists that title encompasses.

Nice one on the Fugazi too, though Repeater would have been the usual recommendation. Great band. So simple too. Only one of them uses a distortion pedal and that's it. Compare that with Mike Einziger's huge pedal-board! :p

Have you seen them live yet, only saw them once, in McGonagles back in 91 lol. Also Minor Threat are / were the biz. Of late, listening to Nomeansno.
